About Furniture Bank

Furniture Bank is a registered charity and social enterprise based in Etobicoke. We redistribute gently-used furniture and housewares from donors in the community to families and individuals experiencing furniture poverty or displacement. Our mission is simple: change lives by giving people the stability and dignity of a furnished home. We’ve been doing this since 1998, and we’re scaling.

Overview

Role Type: Full-time, Permanent — On-site

Compensation: $25 per hour

Reports To: Fleet Manager

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM start. Saturday overtime available.

The Role

At Furniture Bank, you aren't moving boxes — you're moving lives. As a Furniture Mover, you're part of a two-person crew completing 5–8 stops a day across the GTA. Every stop is a family waiting for a bed, a table, a couch. The work is physical and the pace is real. So is the impact at every door.

Is this role for you? (The honest truth)

Before you apply, read this carefully. Most people who've left this role in the past weren't prepared for the reality of it.

The physical toll: You will lift up to 75 lbs. You will do this in July heat and February slush. If you don't enjoy physical work, you will hate this job.
The emotional weight: You will enter homes at people's most vulnerable moments — moves after displacement, estates, fresh starts. The ability to show up with care and professionalism at every door is non-negotiable.
The pace: Families are waiting for beds. We have a schedule to keep. Punctuality and the ability to follow a route without friction are baseline expectations.
The reward: You will see the direct impact of your work every single day. That's not something most jobs can offer.
AI-forward mindset: We use AI in our day-to-day work to create efficiency and focus our energy where it matters. We're not looking for AI experts — just people who are open to AI being an integral part of how we operate.

What you’ll do

The heavy lifting: Safely load and unload furniture using hand-bomb technique and dollies across 5–8 stops per day.
Client care at the door: Carry furniture into clients' homes and ensure items are placed and set up according to their needs. You represent Furniture Bank at every threshold.
Support your Driver Team Lead: Work as a tight unit with your Team Lead — communicate clearly, move efficiently, and keep the day on track.
Fleet care: Help maintain a clean, organised truck. Treat the vehicle like you own it.
Social proofing: Be comfortable recording moments from the day for social media and asking donors and clients for Google reviews.

What we need you to bring

Experience & Physical Readiness

Prior experience in a physically demanding role — moving, labour, warehousing, trades, or similar. We don't require a specific background, but you need to know what you're signing up for.
Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs repeatedly throughout the day with proper technique.
Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions year-round.

Compensation & benefits

$25.00/hour starting rate
