The George Spady Society is seeking compassionate Nurse Practitioners to join our Medically Supported Detox program in a casual capacity. In this role, you'll provide essential clinical care during weekend shifts and cover for physicians when they are away—offering flexibility that fits around your existing schedule while making a real difference in the lives of individuals navigating withdrawal and recovery.
Our Medically Supported Detox program serves some of the most vulnerable members of our community with dignity, respect, and evidence-based care. As a casual Nurse Practitioner, you'll work alongside a dedicated interdisciplinary team to assess, monitor, and support clients through the withdrawal process in a safe and supportive environment. This is an ideal opportunity for an NP who values meaningful work, clinical autonomy, and a schedule they can control.
The Nurse Practitioner will report to the Senior Manager of Emergency Services. Their responsibilities will include to provide advanced primary and/or specialty nursing care to patients in our facility. Duties will include but are not limited to performing physical exams, recording patient medical histories, creating patient care plans, and administering diagnostic tests. Nurse Practitioner will also be administering treatments, as well as observing the patient response to such treatments.
The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in nursing, the requisite license, previous experience in providing primary care to patients, and proficiency with the medical instruments and equipment used in providing nursing care to patients.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide primary care to patients experiencing withdrawal
· Provide care to patients in need of medical stabilization
· Perform physical exams and patient observations
· Record patient medical histories and symptoms
· Create patient care plans and contribute to existing plans
· Order, administer and analyze diagnostic tests
· Diagnose health issues
· Prescribe necessary medications as required
· Detect changes in a patient’s health and change treatment plans as necessary
· Administer treatments
· Evaluate responses to treatments and medications
· Lead a team of LPNs
· Ensure consistent care across rotations
· Train patients and families on managing illnesses or injuries and disease prevention
· Orient and motivate clients toward appropriate daily functioning, life skills, physical health, mental health and substance use support services from a culturally sensitive lens
· Develop and maintain a network of community service providers
· Provide supported referrals to external service providers
· Assess health, mental health, substance use and functional challenges within scope of practice
· Research and participate in relevant training opportunities
· Other duties or tasks as required by the Clinical Director or Senior Manager
Case Management:
· Track and document client progress along care plans, internal databases, and case files
· Liaison with and provide on-going support to referring agencies and client support workers regarding clinical issues
· Work with in-house social workers to advance client care plan
· Lead a team of LPNs to meet the immediate medical needs of clients
· Contribute to joint client service planning and case reviews
· Provide specialized medical expertise and service supports to detox clients
· Assist in the development and preparation of team resources and materials
Hours of Work: 5-8 hours Day shifts, 9:00 am-1:00 pm / 8:00 am -4:00 pm . Weekends included. 2 Casual positions available.
