Full job description

Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dependable Shop Manager to oversee daily operations and ensure the smooth functioning of our facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, extensive mechanical and technical knowledge, and experience working with heavy duty equipment. This role requires a proactive approach to maintenance, safety, and customer service, ensuring that all aspects of the operation meet company standards and client expectations.

Duties

Supervise daily operational activities, ensuring efficiency and safety compliance
Manage workflow, workorders, parts inventory and outstanding accounts
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment such semi trucks and trailers, fire aparatus, meduim truck and trailer repairs
Conduct inspections using schematics and technical manuals to diagnose mechanical or electrical issues
Manage heavy lifting tasks safely using appropriate hand tools and lifting equipment
Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule repairs and preventative maintenance for all equipment
Ensure adherence to safety protocols and conduct safety briefings for staff
Assist in assembly, repair, or modification of equipment as needed for operational requirements
Provide excellent customer service by addressing client concerns promptly and professionally
Maintain detailed documentation of equipment status, repairs, and operational logs

Requirements

Proven experience in fleet maintenance or heavy equipment management is highly desirable
Mechanical knowledge across various equipment including loaders, forklifts, HVAC systems, welding, automotive repair, electrical systems, fire aparatus
Hands-on experience with power tools, hand tools, schematics reading, and industrial equipment operation
Strong background in maintenance work with a focus on heavy lifting and mechanical repairs
Ability to operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, loaders and other industrial equipment safely and efficiently
Mechanical or electrical certification or relevant technical training is preferred
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members
Ability to troubleshoot issues using schematics or technical manuals
Physical capability for heavy lifting and working in demanding environments
Prior supervisory or managerial experience in a similar setting is advantageous
Valid Class 3 drivers licence and CVIP licence
