Location: Regina

Salary Range: $48.41 - $53.69 (SGEU – Salary is subject to change following collective bargaining)

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 37.33 hours per week – one day off every three weeks

Position Summary:

Employees in this classification work within assigned districts to inspect elevators, escalators, amusement rides, barrier free lifts, and passenger ropeways on commercial and industrial premises. This includes inspection of installation, operation, repair, maintenance, and modernization activities to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and safety codes.

Inspectors conduct periodic inspections, coordinate scheduling, investigate accidents and incidents, prepare reports and recommendations, and enforce corrective actions. They may require owners to complete approved repairs and correct deficiencies in accordance with applicable Acts, Regulations, and standards.

The position derives its authority from The Passenger and Freight Elevator Act and The Amusement Ride Safety Act.

This role requires the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces. Duties include climbing ladders and stairs, accessing rooftops, working in tight spaces, and performing detailed visual inspections. The position involves prolonged standing, walking, and travel throughout the province.

Knowledge:

You will have working knowledge of:

The Passenger and Freight Elevator Act, and regulations and related to Canadian Standards

Association (CSA) codes and standards as outlined in The Passenger and Freight Elevator Regulations

CSA B-44 Safety Code for Elevators
CSA-Z185-M87 Code for Personnel Hoists
CSA B-355 Lifts for Persons with Physical Disabilities
CAN/CSA-B311 Safety Code for Manlifts
C22.1 the Canadian Electrical Code
CSA Z-98-14 Passenger Ropeways (Ski Lifts)
ASTM Standards, as outlined in the Amusement Ride Safety Regulations

Certification Requirements:

· Mechanic status, from either the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) or

· similar certifying organization; AND

· Preference may be given to candidates who possess a QEI (qualified elevator inspector) certification.

· A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills/Abilities:

· Ability to interpret and apply legislation, codes, standards, and technical specifications

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess safety and compliance issues

· Effective verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences

· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and inspection-related systems

· Strong organizational skills to manage workload, priorities, and deadlines

· Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within scope of authority

· Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection and Compliance

Conduct inspections of elevators, escalators, barrier free lifts, amusement rides, and passenger ropeways to verify compliance with legislation and safety standards
Inspect installation, maintenance, and repair work for adherence to approved plans and specifications
Assess operational safety of equipment including control systems, safety devices, and mechanical components

Enforcement and Investigation

Identify non-compliance and require corrective action in accordance with Acts, regulations, and codes
Investigate accidents, incidents, and public complaints, including determining causes and recommending corrective measures
Exercise authority to restrict or suspend operation of unsafe equipment where required

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and logs
Enter inspection data into electronic systems
Prepare written reports and recommendations related to compliance, investigations, and enforcement actions

Stakeholder Interaction

Provide guidance and technical information to owners, contractors, and the public
Respond to inquiries regarding codes, regulations, and inspection requirements
Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders

Program Administration

Administer permits, inspections, examinations, and related fees
Schedule and coordinate inspection activities to meet service standards
Support the consistent application of regulatory requirements within assigned district

Professional Practice

Maintain current knowledge of applicable legislation, CSA codes, and industry standards
Participate in training and ongoing professional development
Use hand instrument tools, testing equipment, and electronic devices in the performance of duties
Perform other related duties as assigned

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Clean Drivers Abstract
Clean Criminal Record Check
Valid passport for travel outside Canada (training purposes)
Ability to travel throughout the province, including overnight stays when required

Work will be assigned in designated areas throughout the province. As a result, our inspectors are required to travel and stay overnight as needed to provide efficient delivery of services, especially to remote areas.

Pay: $48.41-$53.69 per hour
