About ACDS
The Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) is a non-profit association of over 150 community disability services organizations in Alberta. ACDS members provide essential services to Albertans with developmental disabilities and brain injuries.
Established in 1972, our member-driven organization works closely with the Government of Alberta and other partners to strengthen the Community Disability Services (CDS) sector through policy advocacy, accreditation, and professional training.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a creative and energetic young professional to lead the revitalization of our organizational media resource library. This project entails building a visual bank that authentically showcases the diverse, impactful work of the disability services sector across Alberta. This role is perfect for a student who has technical skills in photography and videography and understands how to use visual storytelling to support organizational goals.
Key Focus Areas
- Visual Resource Bank Building: Coordinate the "on-the-ground" content capture by visiting 3–4 ACDS member organizations (disability service providers, including sites outside of Calgary. You will be responsible for capturing professional photography and videography of staff, community environments, and service delivery.
- Media Library Management: Organize and curate a comprehensive marketing media library for ACDS’ future use in professional training modules, accreditation materials, advocacy and promotional campaigns.
- Social Media Expansion: Grow ACDS’s digital presence by launching and building a robust Instagram presence. This includes identifying trends and creating engaging short-form content and designing graphics that aligns with our visual identity. We also welcome the position’s contribution to strategic recommendations for long-term growth.
Primary Responsibilities
- Production: Plan, shoot, and edit short-form videos and professional photography for social media, print communications (such as research reports, marketing collateral), and the ACDS website.
- Field Work: Coordinate and travel to site visits with ACDS member organizations to capture candid moments of service providers supporting individuals in their environment while following all site-specific safety protocols.
- Social Media: Build and launch ACDS’ Instagram account. You will also create a content calendar to support the new and existing channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, X).
- Content Design: Design and produce visual content for digital and web-based marketing materials, including web banners, thumbnails, and newsletter assets using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program (Communications, Digital Media, Film/Photography, or Marketing preferred).
- Photography/Videography: Demonstrated technical proficiency in photography and videography (DSLR or high-end smartphone capture)
- Graphic Design & Video Editing: Experience with editing software such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Capcut for video and Photoshop and Canva for images would be an asset.
- Social Media: Deep understanding of Instagram trends, algorithm best practices, and audience engagement.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with disability service providers and represent ACDS professionally on-site.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage a project timeline and deliver a finished media library by the end of the term.
Working Environment & Supervision
- In-Person: This is an in-person position based in Calgary. Some travel will be required to sites outside of Calgary, during which you will be accompanied by your supervisor.
- Mentorship: You will receive daily on-site supervision and weekly formal mentorship from the Communications team.
- Eligibility: Must be between 18 and 30 years of age and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.
