Job Summary
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads both the Manufacturing Engineering team and the ERP BOM Team in a heavy equipment manufacturing environment producing crushers, trommels, screeners, and stackers. This role is responsible for optimizing production processes, ensuring accuracy of Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMs), supporting new product introduction, and driving cross‑functional alignment across Production, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain. A strong hands‑on leadership approach and a commitment to data integrity, safety, and continuous improvement are essential.
Job Duties
Manufacturing Engineering
- Oversee the development, optimization, and documentation of welding, fabrication, machining, painting, and assembly processes.
- Provide technical support to resolve production issues related to weld quality, fit‑up, assembly, and hydraulic/electrical integration.
- Approve tooling, fixtures, lifting devices, and layout improvements.
- Drive lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce cycle time, increase throughput, and eliminate waste.
- Oversee time studies performed by the team to validate labour requirements, improve cycle times, and support accurate costing.
- Lead process launch readiness for new products and engineering changes.
ERP BOM Management & Data Accuracy
- Lead the ERP BOM Team to ensure accuracy and integrity of Manufacturing BOMs and routings in Epicor.
- Maintain accurate material demand, costing, job specifications, and part/operation setups.
- Manage BOM creation, updates, ECO implementation, and data cleansing activities.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and Finance to maintain alignment across systems.
- Maintaining global configuration rules for standard product offering for all MPP brands and re-brands. (CPQ)
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop Manufacturing Engineers and ERP BOM team members.
- Set priorities, manage workloads, and conduct performance reviews and training planning.
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
- Build a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with Quality to ensure adherence to weld, paint, and assembly standards and validate process capability.
- Lead Kaizen events, 5S, ergonomic improvements, and root‑cause investigations for recurring issues.
- Track and improve KPIs including scrap, rework, cycle time, throughput, and first‑pass yield.
- Promote standard work, process consistency, and documentation excellence across operations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
- 5–8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience; heavy equipment or fabrication strongly preferred.
- Experience leading engineering or technical teams; ERP/BOM management experience required.
- Knowledge of Epicor and CPQ systems is an asset.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of fabrication, machining, painting, and mechanical assembly processes.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (preferably Creo) and Microsoft 365.
- Experience with lean manufacturing tools, time studies, and process optimization.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and electrical system integration considered an advantage.
