Kitsilano Neighbourhood House (KNH) serves communities across Vancouver’s west side, providing a broad range of programs, services, and support developed to meet the needs and dreams of the community. We are community builders and place makers, connecting people, ideas, and opportunities.
ANHBC is currently seeking summer team members to join our KNH/Arbutus team. This role is a great fit for someone who shares ANHBC’s values, is interested in community-based work, enjoys working with people, and is excited about building inclusive and connected neighbourhoods.
ABOUT YOU
Kitsilano Neighbourhood House is looking for enthusiastic, mature, dedicated, and effective team members to work in our Childcare Programs for children from newborn to 12 years old. The successful candidate will have an image of children and educators that aligns with the ANHBC Childcare Approach and the ability to work in a diverse, multicultural, and energetic environment.
You have some hands-on experience with young children and bring special interests, skills, or knowledge that you enjoy sharing in ways that spark curiosity and engage. You have strong planning, organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Whether you are exploring a career in education or building on your existing experience, you are eager to contribute to a thoughtful, engaging environment where children feel inspired, empowered, and valued as collaborators.
Eligibility: These positions are funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. As part of the program requirements, applicants must 30 years of age or below at the start of employment and legally able to work in Canada.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Kitsilano Neighbourhood House operates child and youth programs at three locations within the Kitsilano area. We have programs for infants, toddlers, children aged 3 – 5 years, and school aged summer camps. Successful candidates will be placed within age designated programs that best match applicant experience and program need.
The Child & Youth Summer Job position(s) supports Kitsilano Neighbourhood House in the delivery of high-quality early childhood and school age programs. This role is part of a collaborative, child-valued team that works alongside children and families to create a joyful, engaging, and inclusive environment. All positions may have opportunities to lean into program planning, curriculum activities, or sharing special interests and skills. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in early childhood education, learning alongside experienced educators in a supportive team environment. All positions require extensive time outdoors and lots of physical activity.
Responsibilities include:
- Engage with children through play, supporting their curiosity, learning, and overall development.
- Collaborate with the staff team to co-create and develop curriculum and program activities.
- Observe children to inform programming and provide experiences that respond to their interests and needs.
- Lead a group of children in play or intentional provocation
- Provide respectful, age appropriate guidance to children during moments of conflict, aligned with the program’s core values.
- Build positive, welcoming relationships with families and support their involvement in the program.
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment by following childcare licensing regulations and safety procedures.
- Maintain safety during offsite field trips and in transit.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development sessions, and collaborative learning opportunities.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning, sweeping, dishwashing, and sanitizing toys and equipment.
- May be required to work in other Kits House childcare programs to ensure continuity of care & ensure licensing regulations are met
- Perform other duties (as needed)
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 1 year experience in licensed childcare
- Minimum Responsible Adult Certificate
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- As per requirements of Canada Summer Jobs program, must be between 19 and 30 years of age and a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or a person whom refugee protection has been confirmed.
HOURS & LOCATION
35 hours per week, for a fixed short-term (8 week) position, with a start date of June 29 2026
Shift rotations between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm.
This position requires in-person presence at our Kitsilano Neighbourhood House Childcare locations: Maple Childcare Centre, The Collective, Kitsilano Neighbourhood House.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The candidate should be in good physical health to meet the demands of the position, which may include walking, lifting, moving supplies, setting up tables and chairs, and supporting day-to-day space and program needs.
SALARY & BENEFITS
$23.57 per hour plus 4% vacation pay included on each pay cheque
