Modern Edge Industries Ltd. (MEI) is a boutique metal fabrication and installation company operating out of Vancouver Island. We work across two distinct disciplines — precision architectural metalwork and high-volume structural steel — and we take quality seriously in both.

THE ROLE
We're looking for a skilled Journeyman Metal Fabricator to join our shop team. This is primarily a production fabrication role — you'll be in the shop building real projects, from high-end architectural metalwork to structural steel assemblies, with the occasional site install when project flow demands it.
Our work spans a wide range of scope and material. One week you might be fabricating a custom TIG-welded stainless railing and powder-coated gate system for a high-end residential client. The next, you're processing structural wide flanges, HSS columns, and base plates for a commercial build. That variety is a feature, not a side effect — it keeps the work sharp.
THE KIND OF WORK YOU'LL TOUCH
Experience in any of the following is considered a genuine asset:
– Custom architectural gates, fencing, and access systems
– Spiral and straight staircases — structural and ornamental
– Railings and guard systems in steel, aluminum, and stainless
– Structural steel: wide flanges, HSS, base plates, embeds, beams, and columns
– Awnings, canopies, and custom steel architectural elements
– Precision TIG welding on stainless and aluminum assemblies
– Material processing — layout, cutting, forming, fitting
– Prep for powder coating and sandblasting finishing processes
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
– Journeyman-level fabrication experience — you can work from drawings and take ownership of parts from layout to completion
– Solid MIG welding skills with the ability to produce clean, consistent welds
– Experience reading and interpreting fabrication and structural drawings
– Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances with attention to fit and finish
– Comfortable working independently and within a team environment
– A strong work ethic — this is a production shop, and we move
Assets (will set you apart):
– Red Seal Metal Fabricator certification
– CWB certification or equivalent welding qualification
– TIG welding experience — stainless steel and aluminum
– Architectural or ornamental fabrication background
– Experience with plasma cutting, ironworker, or press brake operation
– Site installation experience is a genuine plus
