Society of Sharing (SOS) is a community-focused, values-based, and collaborative organization that strives for excellence and accountability. SOS is an incorporated, charitable, non-profit organization that provides free services to isolated, lonely and frail seniors. All our programs are designed to reduce social isolation, promote social connection, and improve the well-being of housebound clients.

We are searching for a Full Time Seniors Life Enrichment Worker who will implement the program at the Senior Community Housing buildings and will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering engaging social and wellness programs that support the well-being, independence, and social connection of seniors living in a social housing environment. The role focuses on enhancing the quality of life of the seniors, particularly those experiencing isolation, low income, or health-related challenges.

Working within a residential building setting, the Senior Life Enrichment Worker collaborates with tenants, staff, volunteers, and community partners to develop inclusive programs that respond to the diverse needs of seniors. The role also supports safe program delivery, promotes community engagement, and connects residents to available resources and services when needed.

Responsibilities

Program Facilitation

Build and maintain positive relationships with residents to encourage participation, reduce isolation, and foster a welcoming and inclusive community environment
Collaborate with Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation (TSHC) staff, community agencies, and service providers to coordinate programs and services that respond to resident needs as appropriate.
Plan, coordinate, and deliver engaging social and wellness programs that support the well-being, independence, and social connection of seniors living in a social housing environment.
Organize and facilitate weekly social and program activities, such as holiday celebrations, wellness activities, educational/informational sessions, social connection activities, and arts-based programs, ensuring all activities are meaningful and adapted to meet the varying abilities and needs of seniors.
Design and implement engaging, person-centred activities tailored to participant needs, ensuring programs are delivered in a safe, inclusive, and well-organized manner that promotes well-being, dignity, and active participation.
Promote the programs through outreach within the building, including distributing flyers, speaking with residents, and encouraging participation among socially isolated seniors
Oversee setup and cleanup for events, with volunteers providing support.
Maintain inventory and purchase program supplies, including snacks for weekly social sessions, in accordance with established budgets and organizational guidelines. Maintain petty cash records, including accurate tracking of expenditures and submission of supporting receipts and invoices.

Qualifications:

College diploma in Gerontology, Social Service Worker, Therapeutic Recreation, Community Development, Social Work, or a related field.
1-2 years of experience working with seniors and/or persons with disabilities.
Demonstrated experience working with low-income seniors, including those living in social or supportive housing environments. Experience in community-based or housing-focused social services settings is required, with the ability to support seniors facing challenges related to isolation, poverty, health, or access to community resources.
Demonstrated experience in program planning, coordination, and development specifically tailored to the needs of seniors. Experience must include planning and facilitating social activities, and therapeutic group programs that promote social engagement, wellness, independence, and community participation.
Excellent skills in implementing and evaluating activities with cultural appropriateness and sensitivity to participants' needs.
Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multipleprograms/buildingsand responsibilities effectively. Experience supervising volunteers, supporting staff, or coordinating program logistics is considered an asset.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with seniors, community partners, and team members. Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Experience maintaining accurate program records, attendance tracking, and reporting.
Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheets, and data entry systems) is required.
Knowledge of workplace safety practices
Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector is an asset.
Knowledge of social services community resources.
Strong written and oral English communication skills; additional languages considered an asset.
Training in de-escalation, mental health awareness, or dementia care is considered an asset.
Valid CPR and First Aid certification is required.
A Police Vulnerable Sector Check
Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Compensation: $22.80 per hour

Hours: 35 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and occasional overtime is required
