Overview

The Team Lead is a frontline leadership role responsible for supervising, mentoring, and supporting Camp Counsellors while ensuring high-quality, person-centered care for campers. Team Leads play a vital role in daily operations, staff development, behaviour support, and communication between counsellors and camp leadership.

This role is ideal for experienced camp staff looking to take the next step into leadership, gain supervisory experience, and make a meaningful impact in a structured care environment.

End Date: August 18th, 2026
Reporting to: Assistant Directors

Nestled on the picturesque shores of Sparrow Lake in the enchanting Muskoka region of
Ontario: Camp Winston is a haven for children and youth with neurobiological disorders (e.g. Autism, ADHD, PTSD). Offering a respite from their everyday challenges, the camp provides a unique sanctuary where children can develop friendships,have new experiences, and learn essential life skills under the guidance of the devoted Camp Winston staff.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Supervision

Supervise, mentor, and support a team of Camp Counsellors
Model professionalism, positive communication, and best practices in camper care
Conduct bi-weekly check-ins and performance evaluations
Provide real-time coaching, feedback, and guidance during daily programming
Support training, onboarding, and consistent implementation of camp policies
Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative staff team

Camper Care & Program Oversight

Support the implementation of individualized, person-centered care plans
Create and monitor SMART goals for campers and track progress throughout sessions
Assist counsellors with camper hygiene, toileting, and daily living routines while maintaining dignity and safety
Support activity planning, transitions, and adaptations to promote camper success

Behaviour Support & Crisis Response

Act as a first point of contact for counsellors managing behavioural challenges
Provide de-escalation support and behaviour coaching aligned with CPI principles
Assist with incident response, documentation, and follow-up communication

Communication & Operations

Serve as a liaison between Camp Counsellors and Assistant Directors
Participate in leadership meetings and daily briefings as required
Communicate clearly and professionally with staff and leadership
Contribute to continuous improvement of staff practices and camper experience

Health, Safety & Compliance

Uphold Camp Winston policies, Code of Conduct, and Public Health standards
Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful camp environment
Support emergency procedures and risk management protocols

Qualifications & Experience

Enjoy working outdoors in a summer camp environment
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working at Camp Winston or in a comparable camp or care setting
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience mentoring or supervising peers
Ability to deliver high-quality, person-centered care
Strong communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills
Collaborative problem solver with the ability to work effectively with diverse personalities
Interest in child and youth development
Comfortable working offline with limited access to Wi-Fi

Certifications & Requirements

First Aid & CPR Certification (St. John’s Ambulance or Canadian Red Cross)
Willingness to obtain CPI training (provided by Camp Winston)
Willingness to comply with Public Health recommendations and standards
Willingness to provide vaccination records in accordance with Muskoka-Simcoe Public Health policies
Satisfactory Police Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening
Location, Hours & Compensation:

● Camp Counsellors will live onsite from June until the end of August
● Hours will vary during the time of employment at camp.
