About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished, hands-on Operations Manager to lead our Tower & Mobile Crane Division based in Halifax. This role is ideal for a skilled trades professional who has progressed from the field into leadership and brings deep technical expertise in tower crane operations.
The successful candidate will combine strong operational leadership with advanced technical knowledge, supporting the safe and efficient execution of crane projects while serving as a key point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders.
This position requires extensive experience in tower crane systems – including erection, climbing, and dismantling – with strong familiarity working with major manufacturers. Direct experience with Wolffkran equipment is strongly preferred

Key Responsibilities
Operations & Field Leadership
Provide leadership and direction for all tower and mobile crane operations, ensuring efficient planning, coordination, and execution of erection, climbing, maintenance, and dismantling activities
Client Relations and Project Coordination
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining clear communication throughout project lifecycles and aligning crane services with project timelines and requirements
Planning and Site Assessment
Conduct site evaluations and develop, review, and update detailed lift plans to ensure safe and effective crane operations
Regulatory Compliance & Permitting
Liaise with municipal authorities and regulatory bodies to secure permits and ensure full compliance with applicable laws, standards, and transportation requirements
Logistics & Resource Management
Coordinate transportation, rigging crews, subcontractors, and equipment logistics to support seamless project execution
Cost Control and Financial Oversight
Monitor project costs, support accurate billing, and ensure financial performance aligns with operational goals
Safety and Risk Management
Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring adherence to company safety standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices across all operations
Training and Workforce Development
Evaluate and support training programs ensure rigging crews and operational staff maintain high competency and certification standards
Fleet Management and Maintenance Coordination
Oversee fleet compliance, inspections, documentation, and collaborate with workshop teams to ensure crane readiness and maintenance scheduling
Technical Support and Strategic Planning
Provide technical expertise and resource planning support to management, contributing to operational improvements and project success
Business Development and Sales Support
Partner with senior leadership on business development initiatives, project planning, and support crane sales, including equipment brokering and transactions
Administrative Oversight and Reporting
Maintain operational records, ensure accurate documentation, and support reporting requirements for compliance and performance tracking

Required Qualifications
- Certified skilled tradesperson (e.g., crane technician, heavy equipment technician, or equivalent)
- 15+ years of progressive experience in crane or heavy equipment operations, including significant hands-on field experience
- Must have a minimum of 15 years specializing in tower crane erection, dismantling, top climbing, and bottom climbing
- Demonstrated experience leading complex tower crane projects in active construction environments
- 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in crane or heavy equipment operations
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and electronic troubleshooting capability, supported by relevant electrical/electronic trade certifications
- In-depth knowledge of lift planning, rigging practices, and job site safety requirements
- Must have advanced specialization in Wolffkran systems, components, and configurations, including factory training certification and operating systems expertise
- Minimum 10 years of direct experience working with Wolffkran tower cranes; prior Wolffkran employment is considered a strong asset
- Vast knowledge of ABB frequency converters and associated control/operating systems
- Experience managing multiple concurrent crane projects in large-scale commercial construction environments
- Proven ability to coordinate international logistics, including shipping and receiving tower cranes to and from global ports using ocean and land transport methods
- Strong client-facing, communication, and decision-making skills

Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary: $100,000
- Minimum 40+ hours per week (additional hours as required by operations)
- Overtime compensation provided only where required by applicable law
- Company-sponsored health and dental benefits (upon eligibility)
Vacation:
- Three (3) weeks annually (based on a 40-hour work week)
- Paid as time off (not paid out per pay period)
- Equivalent to approximately 7% of base salary
- Scheduling subject to operational demands
