About Us: Langford Law is a boutique firm practicing in the areas of business, immigration, employment and dispute resolution law. We are 20-25 lawyers, paralegals and admirative personnel with offices in Calgary and Vancouver. As a firm, we take pride in our ability to serve businesses, families and individuals with professionalism. Position Summary: We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Calgary office to work in the area of Business Law (corporate and commercial), and other areas as may be required. This position will appeal to candidates with 5+ years of experience who enjoy continuous learning and being productive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
As the Legal Assistant you will provide administrative and legal support to the firm’s lawyers by preparing legal documents, conducting research, organizing files, managing schedules, and maintaining communication with clients. This role is crucial in ensuring effectiveness of legal services within the firm and requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities: • The primary roles and responsibilities include:

Assisting lawyers and paralegals involved in Business Law (corporate and commercial) and other practice areas;
Coordinating meetings in person and by video and teleconference and assisting with preparation for meetings;
Managing files including searches, conflicts, retainers, opening, organizing, maintaining, billing and closing;
Drafting, formatting and revising email and letter correspondence, memos, agreements and other documents;
Conducting various searches for due diligence and other purposes;
Submitting documents for registration at Land Titles, Personal Property Registry and other registries;
Drafting and revising documents, checklists and organizing materials for meetings, transactions, closings;
Preparing closing books and assisting with organizing and updating corporate records;
Administration of time entry and billing of client files;
Supporting marketing and business development activities; and
Performing other legal and administrative tasks assigned from time to time.

Skills and Abilities: • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Legal Assistant in corporate and commercial law or transferable practice;

Excellent verbal and written communication in the English language;
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy;
Highly organized, dependable and performance-oriented;
Positive attitude and adaptability to progressive technology, training and process improvement;
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Excel;
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and specifically large documents (formatting using styles, numbering, cross-referencing, table of contents, merges, etc.), document comparison software and Adobe Acrobat; and
Experience with file and document management, communication and billing systems.
