Full job description

Job Summary:

As a Dimensional Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the precision, accuracy, and quality control of dimensional specifications for automotive parts at TI Automotive. You will apply engineering principles to ensure that parts meet the required design tolerances and fitment standards throughout the manufacturing process. Strong problem-solving abilities, proficiency in 3D CAD software, and a deep understanding on geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is essential.

Job Responsibilities:

Program and operate bridge CMMs using PCDMIS to inspect injectionmolded parts and assemblies.
Perform statistical tolerance analyses, using RSS, Monte Carlo3D variation software like Cetol 6 sigma.
Review customer GD&T and develop inprocess (WIP) GD&T and datum strategies aligned to functional requirements.
Create DCSQDM templates - statistical roadmaps, conduct capability studies, normality tests, and Tukey outlier detection to validate data quality.
Use CAD to create section views; review mating/interface and environmental conditions to define robust datum schemes.
Knowledgeable in Gage/Check Fixture and inspection standardsbest practices
Create Check fixture RFQs, Lead Design approval and Review build buyoff documents.
Diagnose and resolve dimensional/functional issues such as flushgap, misalignments, and rattling.
Communicate complex measurement problems and datadriven resolutions clearly to crossfunctional teams and customers.
Perform dimensional analysis of automotive parts and assemblies using various measurement tools and equipment, such as CMM, laser scanners, and optical measurement systems.
Interpret and apply GD&T standards to evaluate and verify the dimensional quality, ensuring uniformity and consistency in product development and manufacturing processes.
Work closely with design, engineering, quality and production teams to provide input on design, process guidelines, and possible dimensional issues.
Use tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate risks in the dimensional quality of products.
Investigate and analyze root causes of dimensional discrepancies or quality issues and work on solutions to improve production accuracy.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes, focusing on reducing variations, improving yield, and enhancing product quality.
Review and approve vendor-provided dimensional data, such as inspection reports and calibration certifications, ensuring compliance with company standards.
Maintain detailed documentation of dimensional measurement results, inspections, and reports to comply with quality assurance and traceability requirements.
Provide reports and presentations on dimensional analysis, non-conformities, corrective actions, and improvements to senior management.
Participate in audits and ensure dimensional aspects of the manufacturing process comply with global quality standards.
Train and mentor other engineers or production staff on best practices for dimensional measurement, GD&T, and quality control procedures.
Collaborate with global teams, ensuring dimensional standards are consistent across various plants, production lines, and regions.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years combined experience in dimensional engineering, metrology, and gage/fixture engineering
Expert GD&T knowledge per ASME Y14.5, strong datum strategy and drawing interpretation skills.
Proficient CMM programming and operation with PCDMIS; strong alignment/probing strategy and measurement planning.
Solid understanding of metrology standards, uncertainty and reporting(ISO/IEC 17025)
SPC/MSA proficiency: capability indices (Cpk/Ppk), control charts, GR&R, bias, linearity, and stability using Minitab, Excel Macro, DCS- QDM.
Working knowledge of injection molding dimensional behavior (shrink/warp, tooling, process windows) and its impact on tolerancing.
Launch and supplier quality exposure: PPAP, control plan development, measurement strategy through SOR to SOP.
Scripting/automation for analytics and reporting (Python/Excel VBA/SQL) - nice to have
Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certifications are advantageous. Certifications in CMM operation or other dimensional measurement systems is a bonus.
Strong knowledge of GD&T principles and standards, including the ability to apply them to engineering drawings and 3D Models.
Proficiency in using advanced measurement instruments like CMM, Laser Scanners, Optical Measurement Systems, and other metrology tools to perform dimensional analysis.
Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks) for reviewing and analyzing part designs, models, and dimensional specifications.
Knowledge of automotive quality control standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and industry-specific regulations.
Experience with SPC methods for data analysis and control of manufacturing processes.
Strong skills in applying root cause analysis techniques such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and 5 Whys to address dimensional discrepancies and manufacturing issues.
Practical experience in managing supplier relationships and ensuring parts meet dimensional and quality specifications.
Strong ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and solve complex dimensional problems that arise during production or design phases.
Ability to apply statistical analysis and data visualization to identify trends and make data-driven decisions.
