Full job description

HireArt is helping our client find a Backend Software Engineer to help build scalable backend services that power one of the world's leading bike-share platforms.

In this role, you'll develop and maintain backend services that support B2B customer features across more than 40 markets. You'll collaborate with product, engineering, and account management teams to build reliable, scalable solutions that improve urban mobility while supporting a rapidly evolving SaaS platform.

The ideal candidate is an experienced backend developer with strong Java and Python skills who enjoys building scalable, cloud-based applications. They thrive in a collaborative environment, write clean, maintainable code, and are passionate about delivering reliable software that supports customers around the world.

As a Backend Software Engineer, you will:

Design, develop, and implement new backend features based on customer and business requirements.
Build reliable, efficient, maintainable, and well-tested code.
Integrate existing systems with modern services to improve platform performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Translate product requirements into technical solutions and implementation plans.
Collaborate closely with engineering, product management, technical account managers, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
Maintain and enhance existing services to ensure platform stability and reliability.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Support the ongoing evolution of a large-scale SaaS platform serving customers across multiple global markets.
3+ years of experience as a backend software developer, preferably supporting large-scale applications
Proficiency in Java and Python with a strong foundation in object-oriented programming
Experience with MySQL or another relational database management system (RDBMS)
Experience developing and maintaining cloud-native applications using AWS
Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC)
Experience using observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog
Strong troubleshooting and production support skills
Ability to analyze, mitigate, and resolve production issues in a timely manner
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience building distributed systems or large-scale data applications

Commitment: This is a full-time, 4-month contract position (with the possibility of extension) staffed via HireArt. This role is hybrid and requires onsite work on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Montreal, Quebec, Canada office, with work-from-home days on Tuesday and Friday.
