Full job description

Based at the Goldboro Gold Project, we currently have an exciting opportunity for one (1) Environment Technical Lead to join our NexGold team, reporting to the Director of Environment or designate.

The Environment Technical Lead will work within the environment team to implement environmental ﬁeld programs in support of the Goldboro Gold Project. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to safety and excellence, while also applying environmental management skills to the role, conducting ﬁeld sampling programs and protocols, including relevant reporting requirements in a timely basis. This opportunity requires supporting protocols to meet/or exceed environmental performance standards and demonstrate a high degree of initiative and organizational skills in all weather conditions. The incumbent will help provide mentorship to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

Work and communicate within a team environment towards well-defined objectives;
Collect, monitor, and analyze environmental data related to a variety of disciplines such as surface water, groundwater, hydrology, geochemistry, aquatics, SAR, air quality, etc. using best practices, methods, trends and developments in data management, including company-specific processes (Borealis or alternate software);
Coordinate and support field programs, schedules, logistics, resources, data and records consistent with regulatory and company requirements;
Maintain accurate data and test results in accordance with sampling and monitoring criteria, and verify QA/QC for external laboratories;
Maintain and calibrate field equipment;
Assist with the mentorship of Environmental Technician(s) and related co-op students in decision making, data collection protocols, field planning and health & safety;
Coordinate with contractors/consultants as appropriate;
Participate in stakeholder events as appropriate;
Support an understanding of environmental performance within the site team and promote a culture that meets or exceeds protocols;
Advocate company performance internally as well as to our stakeholders, as required;
Aid in the submission and support of permits and respective programs where applicable;
Analyze, interpret, and manage environmental data to ensure quality standards are met;
Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and updating of an Environmental Management System, as well as environmental management and monitoring plans, policies; and procedures;
Support the review and completion of environmental audit, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring compliance with various environmental monitoring programs;
Provide guidance and support on-site hazardous waste management and disposal according to site standards and legislation, and maintain spill response plans and spill reporting registry;

Support the completion of required compliance reporting including the analysis, interpretation, and effective communication of environmental data to information site management decisions and provide suggestions for environmental improvements; and
Assist in the preparation of internal and external environmental documents.

Other

Demonstrate a personal commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental responsibilities; and
Any other duties as reasonably assigned by the Company from time to time.

What You Bring:
Must Haves:

Degree or diploma in an environmental or a related field;
3+ years of experience conducting work within a field-based environment, including experience in an environmental field sampling/analysis role;
Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Office Suite;
A high degree of initiative in all weather conditions;
Strong process-improvement, organization, and project management skills;
Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills;
Capacity to work to tight deadlines with evolving priorities;
Excellent attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to lead by example and provide mentorship to maintain high standards of work performance;
Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality; and
Valid driver’s license equivalent to Class 5 in Nova Scotia.

Physical Requirements:
This position involves regular physically demanding work, including:

Ability to work outdoors on rough terrain in all weather conditions
Ability to walk 5-7 kilometers in uneven terrain regularly
Capable of frequently carrying 15-35lbs loads, including field gear and sample bottles
Capable of occasionally lifting and pushing up to 35+lbs loads, including offloading boats and assisting with movement of ATVs and generators
Capable of frequently pulling 15-35lbs loads, including well development/purging and utilizing inertia foot valves

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a mining or industrial environment will be highly regarded.

Compensation: $66,000-$80,000 annual base salary, dependent on incumbent's qualifications and experience. Eligible for discretionary short-term incentive program.
Benefits: Eligible for Company-paid group benefits package (health, dental, paramedical, vision, employee and dependent life insurance, AD&D, critical illness, and employee & family assistance program). Mandatory participation in group long-term disability (LTD) insurance program with employee-paid premiums.
Retirement: Eligible for Company retirement savings program with company-match.
Vacation: Access to paid vacation time from hire date.
PPE: Reimbursement-eligible items include CSA work boots. All other PPE will be provided by the company on an as-needed basis.
Housing: Company-provided housing is not available for this role.
Travel: This is a local role and is not eligible for a travel allowance in accordance with NexGold’s travel-related policies and practices.
