Salary:
Maintenance Service Worker 1 (MSW1) – Park Maintenance Worker 1:
$23.11 - $26.00 per hour
Maintenance Service Worker 2 (MSW2) – Park Maintenance Worker 2:
$24.80 - $30.36 per hour
Maintenance Service Worker 3 (MSW3) – Park Maintenance Crew Lead:
$26.18 - $32.08 per hour

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:

5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:

$3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
$2.75 per hour for evenings

Role Responsibilities

If you enjoy working outside and are committed to improving a visitor’s experience when they visit a provincial park by maintaining facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team at one of the following Alberta Provincial Parks and Protected Areas within the Southwest Area in the Pincher Creek/Castle and Lethbridge Districts:

We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Maintenance Workers for the 2026 summer season. You will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of campgrounds, day use areas, facilities and trail systems.

We are currently looking to hire:

2 Park Maintenance Crew Leads (MSW3)
1 Park Maintenance Worker 2 (MSW2)
10 Park Maintenance Workers (MSW1)

As a Park Maintenance Service Worker (MSW1), duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

Performing landscaping, building cleaning and site servicing of campgrounds, day use areas and facilities.
Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment.
Operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, ATVs, etc.
Litter pickup and garbage removal on beaches, day use facilities, picnic areas
Assisting with trail maintenance, beach and dock maintenance.
Installing and maintaining signage.
Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly.
Assisting with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs.
Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols, in addition to the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols.
Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses.

Continued Role Responsibilities

As a Park Maintenance Worker 2 (MSW2), primary duties are to assist Parks Maintenance Supervisor at manual functions, and being accountable for direct sites equipment operations including:

Operating heavy equipment such as sewer truck, loaders, skid steers, garbage trucks, etc.
Assisting with formal and informal inspections, maintenance and servicing of equipment.
Completing trail maintenance projects.
Maintaining roads and parking lot areas.
Assisting with routine playground inspections and maintenance.
Install and remove docks, maintains beaches.
Operating chainsaws, brush saws and other higher risk equipment.
Landscaping and Facility Maintenance as required per work location.
Ensuring vehicles and equipment are maintained to standard
Caretaking and cleaning duties as required.

Note: Successful candidate will work within the Area and will need to travel to various Park locations as assigned.

As the Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3), primary duties include assisting MSW1 Workers with the duties mentioned above in addition to administrative and supervisory tasks such as:

Onsite lead for a crew of MSW staff. Accountable for direct site operations, and for leading the task scheduling for other staff.
Assisting with formal inspections, maintenance and servicing of equipment.
Assisting with playground routine inspections and maintenance.
Assisting with docks installation and removals and maintaining beaches.
Conducting purchasing and ordering supply inventory within budget.
Assisting with staff training and staff performance reviews.
Assisting with service contract management.

All positions will require you to work various shifts including weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any type of weather conditions, rain or shine.

Qualifications

Education and Experience required:

Park Maintenance Worker – (Maintenance Service Worker 1)
Some high school education
Equivalency: Directly related experience considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Park Maintenance Worker 2 – (Maintenance Service Worker 2)
Some high school education and 1 year of related experience
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

Experience with Sewer, Dump or Garbage Trucks (2, 3 or 3 ¾ Tons)
Skilled Operator Certification

Park Maintenance Crew Lead – (Maintenance Service Worker 3)
Some high school education, related training and 2 years of related experience
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Additional requirements:

Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent and 3-year Driver’s Abstract.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.
Current Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.

Additional Assets to be successful in any of the roles:

Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small equipment.
Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions.
Chainsaw certification.
Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints.
Experience working within a campground setting.

Terms of Employment:

For the Park Maintenance Worker 1 role:

Early May start date to late early September end date

For the Park Maintenance Worker 2 role:

April start date to October end date

For the Park Maintenance Crew Lead role:

Late April/early May start date to late September/early October end date

For all positions:

Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work.
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required.
Final Candidates will be required to provide an acceptable 3-year Driver’s Abstract. (Will be reimbursed).
Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate.
WHMIS 2015 Certificate.
Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided; Certified Safety footwear is not provided, but candidates will be reimbursed for a portion of the cost.
These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (early May 2026).
Staff housing may be available.

Maintenance Workers may participate in conflict resolution, interact with irritated or difficult visitors or provide support during emergencies events or incidents. Applicants should be prepared to manage these circumstances with composure, sound judgment, and effective communication skills.
