Full job description

Elves Special Needs Society is a non-profit organization and Private School accredited by Alberta Education, as a Designated Special Education Program (DSEP). We specialize in supporting children, youth, and adults with speech and language delays, or severe cognitive, physical, or social impairments.

We are currently seeking a full-time, neurodiversity affirming Speech Language Pathologist to join our multidisciplinary team including occupational and physical therapists, nurses, and social workers. The job is located at the Elves Child Development Center, which supports students aged 2;8 – 6. The Speech-Language Pathologist provides high quality service to a diverse group of learners, prioritizing neurodiversity affirming care and trauma-informed care. The Speech-Language Pathologist provides a strengths-based approach and utilizes evidence-based practice.

Key responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

Provide consultation to classroom teams, goals, and treatment planning for students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.
Complete assessment reports, including specific assessments for qualifying for Program Unit Funding.
Complete documentation in a timely manner including: assessment reports, multidisciplinary reports, goals/treatment plans, and IPP updates.
Attend IPP meetings and provide parent consultation as needed.
Collaborate with classroom teams (teachers and EAs), OT, PT, learning coaches, social work, and nursing.
Provide supervision to a team of speech-language pathologist assistants.
Support team in providing positive behaviour supports.
Offer high quality, evidence-based strategies and support specific to individual child needs.
Liaise with other community professionals and agencies for purposes of diagnosis, implementation or transition supports.
Develop and present workshops to educational teams, families, and/or community members as needed.

Education and Experience:

The successful applicant must be registered or be eligible to be registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).
Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology.
Experience working with neurodivergent children with complex needs is an asset.
Strong interpersonal skills required.
Knowledge in the area of AAC is considered an asset.
