Are you our next Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Engineer or Designer?
We are seeking Mechanical Engineers or Designers who will lead mechanical projects in the commercial office, healthcare and education industries. As a proven problem solver, you will ensure that we meet the technical requirements of a project by delivering excellence, innovation and ingenuity to our clients.
In this role you are expected to:
· Evaluate and design mechanical systems by developing drawings and specifications in HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
· Produce rough layouts and schematic designs to aid with space planning.
· Establish the needs of the client and coordinate with other disciplines and office personnel to ensure that these requirements are met.
· Select products, components, and applications via your own research and by applying previous knowledge of mechanical systems and materials.
· Provide technical assistance and respond to contractor’s inquiries that relate to construction projects
· Prepare technical reports, load/design calculations, construction cost estimates and conduct cost analysis.
· Perform detailed site surveys.
· Attend internal and external project meetings and coordinate with clients and other consultants independently.
· Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders for construction or maintenance.
· Schedule, coordinate and lead engineering design teams and projects, including resource utilization, project expenditures and invoicing.
· Market and promote the services offered by SMS Engineering including the preparation of proposals and fee estimates.
· Assist, support and mentor junior staff in the fundamentals of mechanical design, calculations and preparation of construction documentation.
· Those with a professional engineering designation are expected to seal design drawings and documents.
What You Bring:
· Have between 6-10 years of industry design experience with a project and technical management background.
· A degree in mechanical engineering or diploma in engineering and a licensed Manitoba professional engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) and the ability to travel within Manitoba, with some limited national travel.
· Knowledge of local codes and standards including the Manitoba Building Code, Manitoba Plumbing Code, Manitoba Energy Code, CSA Standards, and NFPA standards related to mechanical building systems.
· Have the ability to assess load calculations, equipment sizing, and mechanical designs prepared by others.
· Are experienced with REVIT and ability to edit and add information into a BIM model.
· Proficient in financial performance management of projects.
· Thrive in an extremely fast-paced environment where you practice your skills of multi-tasking and prioritization.
· Can be entrusted to work with confidential information, non-disclosure agreements, and required federal, provincial, military or other security clearances.
· Enjoy working within a team and collaborating with fellow employees, clients, contractors and other design teams coordinating team meetings, meeting deadlines and delivering quality results within budget.
· Have strong organizational and time management skills including an understanding of project scheduling, including Gantt charts.
· Are at ease working independently and representing the company at the highest levels.
· Have exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Pay: $85,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
