About the Role
The Academy Co-Director provides leadership, coordination, and operational oversight for the academy programming
within the Kitaskinaw Education Authority (KEA). This role supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of
specialized academy streams that enhance student engagement, skill development, and holistic wellbeing.
Academy programming may include specialized streams such as Hockey, Multi-Sport, Golf, Arts, and other experiential
or enrichment pathways, designed to complement academic programming and support student interests and talents
relating it to the Alberta Program of Studies.
The Academy Director works closely with school leadership, teachers, instructors, students, families, and community
partners to ensure academy programming aligns with educational goals and supports student success.
This role carries leadership responsibilities similar to school administration, including staff supervision, program
oversight, and staff evaluations. The Academy Director may also be required to support administrative functions or
serve in an acting administrative capacity when school administration is unavailable.
Leadership within this role reflects the Cree principle of wahkohtowin, emphasizing relational leadership, community
collaboration, and culturally grounded education practices.

wellbeing through experiential learning opportunities that complement academic learning.

Key Responsibilities
Duties to include, but not limited to
Academies provide students with opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and strengthen
connections to community and culture.
Academy Program Leadership
- Provide overall leadership and coordination of academy programming.
- Ensure academy programs align with school curriculum, educational priorities, and student development
goals.
- Support development of specialized academy streams including:
- Hockey
- Multi-Sport
- Golf
- Arts
- Other emerging academy opportunities
- Ensure programs support students’ physical, social, and creative development.
Program Planning and Coordination
- Develop and implement a comprehensive academy program plan outlining goals, timelines, activities, and
resource requirements.
- Coordinate academy schedules and programming with school leadership and teaching staff.
- Ensure the provision of facilities, equipment, transportation, and instructional supports required for
program delivery.
Staff Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise academy instructors, coaches, and program facilitators.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional support to academy staff.
- Conduct staff evaluations and performance reviews in alignment with KEA expectations and education
standards.
- Support professional growth and accountability among academy staff.
Administrative Support and Leadership
- Assist school administration with school leadership responsibilities when required.
- Support implementation of school policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership support during administrative absences or when delegated by the Principal or Senior
Manager of Education.
- Assist with coordination of school events, student supervision, and operational needs when required.
Student Engagement and Development
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages student participation and skill
development.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to students as they explore their interests within academy programming
such as leadership.
- Support student wellbeing and promote positive behaviour and teamwork.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with parents, community partners, instructors, and external organizations.
- Coordinate with external providers and organizations to support academy programming.
- Maintain strong communication channels between students, families, school staff, and external partners.
Program Evaluation and Reporting
- Implement evaluation tools to assess academy program effectiveness.
- Monitor student participation and outcomes.
- Collect feedback from students, parents, and staff to support program improvement.
- Prepare reports and presentations for school leadership and community stakeholders.
Implementation of KEA Leadership Quality Standard (KEA-LQS)
The Academy Co-Director demonstrates leadership aligned with the KEA Leadership Quality Standard (KEA-LQS) and
assists the principal in carrying out the leadership competencies used within KEA leadership evaluations.

- Support the school community in understanding the history and impacts of treaties, colonial policy, and
residential schools.
- Promote culturally responsive education practices.
- Strengthen understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, languages, and perspectives.
Standard 6 – Providing Instructional Leadership
- Build teacher capacity to support diverse learners.
- Ensure teacher supervision and evaluation processes support the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS).
- Support fair and effective student assessment practices.
- Facilitate access to resources and expertise that enhance student learning.
Standard 7 – Developing Leadership Capacity
- Encourage leadership development among teachers and staff.
Standard 8 – Managing School Operations and Resources
- Assist the Principal in managing school operations and daily administrative responsibilities.
- Support scheduling, staffing coordination, and school logistics.
- Help ensure resources are allocated effectively to support student learning.
Standard 9 – Understanding and Responding to the Larger Societal Context
- Support the school community in understanding educational policies and social contexts impacting students.
- Assist in building relationships with community organizations and local partners.
- Support culturally responsive programming that reflects community values and priorities.

Education
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent.
A Master’s degree in education or educational leadership is considered an asset.
Certification Requirements
- Valid Alberta Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate (Required)
- Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) Certification (Preferred)
- Clear Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerability Sector and Child Welfare Intervention Check is required.
Preferred Certification
The following certifications are considered assets:
- First Aid / CPR Certification
- Coaching or sport-specific certifications
- Program management training
- Cultural knowledge or Cree language proficiency
Understanding or speaking nêhiyawêwin (Cree language) and possessing cultural knowledge is considered an asset.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience
- Previous leadership experience within a school setting is preferred
- Experience in program development, student programming, or extracurricular coordination.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working within K–12 educational environments
- Experience working with youth in sports, arts, or recreational programming
- Experience supervising staff or instructors
- Experience managing programs, budgets, or operational planning
- Experience working within Indigenous communities or culturally grounded programs
Employment Conditions
- Work hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday
- Required to work a total of 40 hours per week (Essential Service)

Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Department
- Required to volunteer 100 hours per school year
- 10-month-based employee, with summers off per the annual operational calendar.
- May require occasional lifting of light office supplies and equipment.
- This position may require travel to various locations for meetings and events.
- Work occurs primarily within the school environment.
- Participation in community events, school activities, and evening meetings may be required.
- The role may involve managing complex situations and multiple priorities.
- Participation in cultural activities, school events, and community engagement opportunities may be required.
