Position Summary:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Care, the Physical Therapist ensures clients are provided with appropriate therapy service in accordance with current physical therapy practices. The Therapist achieves this by taking a leadership role that helps clients maximize/maintain their independence and/or comfort by incorporating client-centered goals. He/She also participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team and keeps job knowledge update.
SCOPE:
In accordance with the LeeCaring Communities mission, vision, and values, this position is responsible for ensuring that clients receive safe quality service according to policies and procedures. This is a leadership position that involves client service delivery.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Job Knowledge:
a. Assesses and establishes goals, interventions and programs for individual client.
b. Establishes outcome indicators for each client, monitors success of interventions
and modifies as require.
c. Updates knowledge on treatment, evaluation tools and best practice.
d. Specific area may include mobility, transfers, gait, wound care, modalities, cardio-
respiratory care, manual therapy, positioning, acupuncture.
e. Knowledgeable in providing appropriate referrals to community agencies.
2. Client Focus:
a. Complies with all safety requirements and organizational policies and procedures
all the time for the safety of residents and quality resident service. Works safely all
the time.
b. Works with client in developing individualized treatment plans.
c. Responds to client/families’ needs and concerns in a timely manner to ensure
client/families satisfaction.
d. Demonstrates respect for client dignity and privacy.
e. Demonstrates holistic and hospitable approaches to client.
f. Demonstrates understanding client as individual with desires and preferences.
g. Demonstrates an innovative approach to therapy in order to maximize client
outcome.
3. Open Communication Style:
a. Demonstrates ability to document a clear, accurate and concise manner.
b. Communicates effectively with other staff in timely manner.
c. Attends conferences, reviews and meetings as required.

e. In orientation and evaluation of physical therapy staff and other as required.
f. Ensures safety of equipment and environment.

h. Supervise students within contract agreement.

a. Provides input to budget planning and monitors expenses.
b. Demonstrates ability to work within the budget.
c. Identifies and monitors resource material required for physical therapy
programming.
d. Able to prioritize work schedule and adapt to changes appropriately as required by
client needs.
6. Teamwork:
a. Demonstrates a collaborative interdisciplinary team approach to delivery of therapy
service.
b. Communicates with team members in an approachable, open and honest manner.
c. Listens to others and incorporates others’ ideas when appropriate.
d. Demonstrates the ability to facilitate and maintain a positive working relationship
both within and outside the facility.
7. Integrity:
a. Demonstrates professionalism by adhering to physical therapy standards of practice
as prescribed by the College of Physical Therapist of Alberta.
b. Demonstrates the ability to follow through with commitments.
c. Maintains confidentiality.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Must be physically capable of performing lifts, transfers and other physical activities as required. This includes the ability to frequently lift, push or pull 20-35 pounds and occasionally lift, push or pull 40-50 pounds.
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
Education Needed: Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy. Licensed with the College of Physical Therapyof Alberta. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
Experience: Previous experience in continuing care and/or community preferred.
Skill Required:
- Ability to physically execute the requirements of the position.

- Time management skill.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
Security Clearance: Must have a current and clear security clearance.
