Producer, CBC Life
CBC Life is looking for a Producer to join Canada’s national lifestyle platform, creating engaging and distinctive content across food, home, style, wellness, work and money, relationships, culture and travel. Reporting to the Senior Producer, the successful candidate will be a key member of the editorial team responsible for ideating, assigning, editing, producing and publishing compelling lifestyle content across CBC Life’s digital platforms. This is a one-year contract position.
The Producer will contribute to CBC Life’s editorial planning by identifying timely and audience-focused story opportunities, managing freelance contributors, and producing original content for web, social and video platforms.
We’re looking for someone who’ll bring strong lifestyle journalism instincts and experience producing digital-first content across multiple platforms. You’ll need a deep understanding of digital publishing and audience behaviour, with the ability to create compelling stories that are both editorially strong and engaging to online audiences. The role requires strong editorial judgment, collaboration skills and comfort working across written, social and video formats.
Key tasks
Under the direction of the Senior Producer:
Produce content daily for CBC Life’s digital platforms and social channels
Conceive, develop and pitch original lifestyle story ideas aligned with CBC Life’s editorial priorities and audience strategy
Field and evaluate external pitches from freelance contributors and creators
Assign, develop and edit stories from freelance writers and contributors
Write and produce original editorial content for CBC Life platforms
Participate in the creation and production of digital video and social-first content
Collaborate with producers, writers, video teams, social teams and designers on editorial initiatives and special projects
Participate in editorial planning and contribute to team objectives and content strategy
Exercise editorial responsibility as delegated by Management
As required, performs the following tasks:
Selects, rewrites and/or edits copy written by others
Publishes and packages stories within content management systems, including headlines, SEO, metadata and promotional copy for digital and social platforms
Helps coordinate editorial priorities and digital publishing schedules
Assigns, coordinates and supervises the work of contributors for which the Producer is responsible
Collaborates with social and video teams to extend editorial content across platforms
Monitors digital trends and audience behaviour to help inform editorial planning and strategy
Identifies, develops and maintains contacts appropriate to the area of assignment
Ensures, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used on digital platforms
Qualifications
You possess the following:
Demonstrated experience and strong editorial knowledge in lifestyle content areas.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant editorial and digital publishing experience
Strong understanding of digital publishing, including audience engagement, SEO, social distribution and platform optimization
Experience assigning, editing and collaborating with freelance writers, creators and contributors
Experience producing digital-first journalism and content designed for online audiences
Experience writing and editing high-quality editorial content under deadline
Experience participating in or producing digital video and/or social content
Strong awareness of the digital media landscape and evolving audience behaviours across platforms
Excellent editorial judgment and a strong understanding of CBC journalistic standards and practices
Strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced digital environment
Ability to work collaboratively across editorial, video, social and production teams
Ability to write clearly, accurately and engagingly; copy editing experience and familiarity with CBC style are assets
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think strategically and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment
Experience using content management systems; experience with 9CMS is an asset
University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required
