About the Opportunity
Parker Huggett is partnering with a leading Canadian builder to recruit a Mechanical & Electrical Coordinator for a major institutional construction project in Ottawa, Ontario. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing project team delivering a technically complex and nationally significant development.
The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating all mechanical, electrical, elevator, fire protection, and building systems activities from pre-construction through commissioning and close-out. Working closely with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent, you will help drive quality, schedule, coordination, and successful project execution across all M&E scopes.
This role is ideally suited for a construction professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys collaborating with consultants, subcontractors, and field teams on large-scale projects.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Design & Technical Coordination
Review construction drawings and shop drawings to identify and resolve conflicts between architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems
Coordinate mechanical and electrical installations with consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams
Assist with constructability reviews, equipment selection, and system coordination
Monitor progress of mechanical and electrical trades and major project deliverables
Scheduling & Planning
Support the development and management of the overall construction schedule related to M&E systems, elevators, fire suppression, and site services
Lead coordination of testing, commissioning, and turnover schedules with trades and consultants
Monitor subcontractor manpower, sequencing, and schedule performance
Quality Control & Site Coordination
Assist in the development and execution of QA/QC processes for all M&E scopes
Conduct site inspections to ensure installations are completed in accordance with drawings and specifications
Coordinate consultant inspections, deficiency tracking, and inspection documentation
Ensure inspections and trade sign-offs are completed prior to enclosure and drywall installation
Maintain oversight of record drawings and close-out documentation
Subtrade & Contract Coordination
Attend subcontractor coordination meetings and support resolution of site issues
Review subcontractor progress billings and verify work completed on site
Track submittals, RFIs, change orders, close-out documentation, and commissioning requirements
Review quotations, pricing changes, and schedule impacts associated with site instructions and RFIs
Commissioning & Project Close-Out
Coordinate occupancy and commissioning activities with consultants and authorities having jurisdiction
Support turnover procedures including O&M manuals, as-built drawings, deficiencies, warranties, and final inspections
Lead M&E close-out planning and ensure timely completion of all outstanding items
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical and electrical construction coordination
Strong understanding of commercial/institutional building systems and construction practices
Experience coordinating mechanical, electrical, elevator, and fire protection scopes on complex projects
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment
Ability to obtain Secret-level security clearance is required
