About Métis Community Services Society of BC

Métis Community Services Society of BC (MCSSBC) has a mandate from Métis citizens to provide integrated, holistic, family-centered, wrap-around services to those who need assistance, with emphasis on urban Indigenous populations.

MCSSBC delivers culturally responsive programming that supports children, youth, and families through health, culture, education, and community connection.

About the Role

The Indigenous Case Manager supports Indigenous youth and their families who may be experiencing barriers at home, in school, or within the community. This role provides early intervention through culturally responsive, family-centered support plans that promote stability, well-being, and connection.

Working within a wrap-around service model, the Indigenous Case Manager assesses needs, identifies risks, and collaborates with youth, families, and service providers to develop and implement short-term, goal-oriented plans. The position supports youth in maintaining engagement in school, strengthening relationships, and accessing safe and stable environments.

This role works closely with internal teams and community partners to ensure coordinated, culturally safe care, and contributes to the overall wellness of the families served.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is part of the organizational leadership team.

Client Support and Case Management

Build trusting, respectful relationships with Indigenous youth and their families.
Gather relevant information through observation, interviews, and collaboration with caregivers and service providers to assess needs, strengths, and risks.
Develop and implement family-centred, culturally appropriate intervention plans that address identified needs and goals.
Provide one-on-one and group support sessions focused on skill-building, problem-solving, and emotional well-being.
Support youth and families in navigating systems such as education, health, and social services.
Monitor progress and adjust intervention plans as needed in collaboration with supervisors and families.

Program Delivery

Plan and facilitate individual and/or group sessions using approaches such as active listening, conflict resolution, and strengths-based support.
Support skill development in areas such as communication, self-regulation, relationship-building, resiliency, and self-esteem.
Promote school engagement and connection to community supports.

Cultural Integration

Incorporate Indigenous cultural practices, teachings, and values into service delivery where appropriate.
Support youth and families in strengthening cultural identity and connection.
Engage with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to enhance cultural learning opportunities.

Community Collaboration

Liaise with schools, community agencies, and service providers to coordinate care and advocate for youth and families.
Accompany youth and families to appointments and meetings as needed.
Promote awareness of available services and support appropriate referrals.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, case notes, and reports.
Track service delivery and outcomes in alignment with program and funder requirements.
Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and program planning.

Other Duties

Contribute to agency initiatives that support youth and family well-being.
Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in a related human or social services field (e.g., Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Community Support).
Minimum one (1) year of recent, related experience working with Indigenous youth and families.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and harm reduction approaches.
Understanding of family-centred practice and early intervention supports.
Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience working within Indigenous communities or organizations is considered a strong asset.
Knowledge of Métis culture, traditions, and community priorities is highly valued.

Note: MCSBC is exempt and may give preference to hiring Métis applicants under Section 16 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.
