Hours: 38.75 hours/week.
Salary: $24.86 - $27.00 per hour.

Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency who proudly operates Nshwaasnangong Child Care and Family Centre.
Nshwaasnangong is a place for Indigenous young children and families to honour, rekindle, and express their identities as Indigenous Peoples; where kindness and compassion helps everyone to have a sense of belonging; where we nurture our well-being, while living in sync with community and all creation; where we engage deeply with questions and possibilities.
Our centre offers licensed child care and a nurturing environment for up to 88 children, ages 0-6, to learn, develop, and connect with their Indigenous culture. Our Child Care Centre is adjoined with our Family Centre that provides a place for young children, families and youth to participate in ceremonies, land-based learning, knowledge exchange and connect with community supports.

We are looking for a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) who is kind and forward-thinking individual to provide a culturally rich child care curriculum. This position reports directly to the Family Centre Supervisor and collaborates with a team of RECEs and Family Centre staff team.

What we're looking for:
- Experience: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Early Childhood education or equivalent.
- Indigenous Cultural Knowledge and Understanding: Knowledge of the Indigenous histories, cultures, creation stories, and language of the Indigenous population in the London area a strong asset. A demonstrated commitment to language revitalization and reclaiming cultural identities. Experience as an Indigenous language learner an asset.
- Cultural Sensitivity & Awareness: a genuine respect for Indigenous cultures and practices, with an openness to learning and engaging with Indigenous communities. Experience with Indigenous communities is an asset.
- Child Care Knowledge: Preferably a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a Licensed Early Childcare setting/Family Centre/Childcare or similar experience. A demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and promoting the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children. Knowledge and experience with licensing under the Child Care Early Years Act. Knowledge of Indigenous pedagogical approaches that support How Does Learning Happen, Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years. Able to meet the legislative requirements for working in a licensed child care setting.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: You are a team player who can establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact positively with community members, management, and staff.
- Proficiency with Office Suite: Including Office, Excel, PowerPoint as well as any relevant educational software(s).
- Additional Requirements: You have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle, as travel within the region may be needed. You'll also need a clean and current Vulnerable Sector Police Check and up-to-date immunizations and records.
What you'll do:
- Culturally Relevant Curriculum: Promote an environment that honors the language, culture, and well-being of local Indigenous populations while supporting children's health and security. Collaborating with others to review curriculum, share ideas, assess curriculum, and support a positive atmosphere of teamwork.
- Promote development: Implement Nshwaasnangong's Program Statement by integrating early childhood education with an urban Indigenous context, using emergent curriculum and Indigenous pedagogical approaches.
- Centre Functions: Assess children's abilities and needs, guiding them in activities that foster creativity and development through storytelling, music, art, and physical play.
- Community Engagement: Establish collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers, while monitoring children's development and addressing any behavioral or learning concerns.
