Position purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Student Services and Career Centre, the Specialist, Career and Employment is responsible for the design, development, implementation, delivery, and continuous improvement of high impact, competency based career development programming that enhances the career readiness and employability of BCom and MBA students.
The incumbent operationalizes competency based career development through experiential, in person learning formats (e.g., workshops, masterclasses, applied learning activities) that complement existing Career Centre services and align with institutional priorities related to student success and employability.
In this job, your responsibilities will include:
Program Design and Development : Leads the overall design and structure of competency based career programming, ensuring it responds to student needs, employer expectations, and labour market trends. Establishes scalable learning architectures (e.g., pathways, modules, progression models) that support the systematic development of employability competencies for BCom and MBA students. Defines learning outcomes, content frameworks, and experiential learning approaches that ensure coherence, relevance, and educational rigor across programs. Develops and maintains assessment frameworks and tools to enable consistent measurement and tracking of student learning outcomes. Ensures alignment and integration of new programming with existing Career Centre initiatives and contributes to the development of potential micro credential pathways.
Program Implementation and Delivery: Responsible for the effective implementation and delivery of competency based programming, ensuring high quality learning experiences for students. Coordinates program delivery requirements (e.g., scheduling, formats, resources) in collaboration with Career Centre staff and internal partners to support smooth execution. Provides functional guidance and resources to support consistency, quality, and shared standards in program delivery across the Career Centre. Oversees the management and curation of program content and learning resources within institutional platforms.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement : Is accountable for the monitoring and evaluation of program effectiveness, including participation, engagement, and learning outcomes. Analyzes program data and prepares evidence based insights and reports to inform program refinement and decision making. Leads the continuous improvement of programming, adapting content and approaches based on evaluation results, feedback, and emerging best practices. Maintains current professional knowledge of career development theory, experiential learning models, and employment trends to ensure program relevance.
Stakeholder Collaboration : Is accountable for collaborative relationships that support the successful design, delivery, and integration of career programming. Works with internal partners (e.g., academic programs, CDEL, marketing) to support promotion, alignment, and integration within the broader student experience. Engages external stakeholders, to enhance program content and delivery. Leads student consultation activities (e.g., focus groups) to ensure programming remains responsive to evolving needs.
What you will bring:
Undergraduate degree in education, business, human resources, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in program development, preferably within a higher education environment.
Experience in instruction design or curriculum development.
Experience in program or project management.
Experience in facilitating events, workshops or training sessions.
Strong critical thinking, analytical, synthesis, and research skills, including the ability to develop evaluation mechanisms, to collect and interpret data, and to write reports.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with proven multicultural awareness.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Familiarity with the Canadian and/or Ottawa employment landscape.
Excellent abilities in both English and French (written and oral).
