Job Overview

Kinnect House is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Family Worker to support youth with behavioural disabilities and their families. Kinnect House is a semi‑residential group home designed to give families respite while supporting children and youth in a structured, therapeutic, home‑like environment.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about family preservation, behavioural support, and relationship‑based practice. The Family Worker will work closely with biological families, teaching parenting skills and maintaining family connections while the child is in the program. The position also includes working a few shifts per week in the group home to support youth directly.

Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain supportive relationships with biological families
Teach and model parenting strategies and behaviour management techniques
Support families in staying connected with their child during program placement
Engage with youth in daily routines and activities within the group home
Apply therapeutic skills provided through training and clinical guidance
Support youth in meeting expectations and earning privileges
Transport youth to and from school and therapy appointments
Administer medications as required
Maintain clear communication and documentation
Collaborate with therapists, program staff, and supervisors

Required Skills & Competencies

As a Family Worker, you will:

Demonstrate the ability to manage escalated children or youth safely and calmly
Actively listen, assess needs, and provide practical solutions
Apply behaviour management and de‑escalation techniques
Show strong understanding of family systems and dynamics
Respond to children, youth, and families with empathy and compassion
Build rapport with clients and their guardians
Maintain professionalism in emotionally complex situations

Additional Qualifications

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience using Microsoft Word for documentation
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
Strong problem‑solving and creative thinking skills
Positive attitude and strong time‑management skills
Ability to work respectfully with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
Knowledge of Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention / de‑escalation techniques (asset)
Willingness to complete additional training (provided by the agency)
Knowledge of FSCD and/or Child and Family Service is an asset

Requirements

Valid Driver’s License
$2 million vehicle liability insurance coverage
Valid First Aid – Level C
Up‑to‑date Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Intervention Record Check (IRC)
Experience working with children or youth with challenging behaviours

Schedule

Monday: 3pm to 11pm
Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 5:00
Wednesday: 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Friday: 3pm to 11pm
