ABOUT YOU:
As the Technical Business Analyst, you will have experience in business analysis, data analytics, and technical solution development, with a strong understanding of how data can be leveraged to inform decision-making and drive organizational impact. You have education and/or experience in areas such as business analysis, computer science, data analytics, or a related field, and are comfortable working across both technical and business domains.
You bring at least 3 years demonstrated experience in researching, organizing, analyzing, and presenting data to support strategic initiatives. You have strong skills in data analysis, reporting, and business process improvement, along with experience working with databases, BI tools, and data models. You are proficient in using tools such as SQL, spreadsheets, and visualization platforms, and bring strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. You have the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for a variety of audiences, and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment while managing multiple priorities.
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
Reporting to the Manager, Business Intelligence and Data Governance, the Technical Business Analyst plays a key role in supporting United Way BC’s ability to leverage data to inform decision-making, strengthen community impact, and enhance organizational performance. The role is responsible for leading and contributing to initiatives related to data analysis, reporting, and business process improvement, ensuring that data is effectively translated into actionable insights.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, the Technical Business Analyst develops and maintains reporting solutions, conducts analysis to identify trends and opportunities, and supports the development of data models and performance indicators. The role also contributes to advancing data governance practices, improving workflows, and ensuring that staff are equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively use data in their work.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities: Data and Reporting Solutions

Develops, supports and manages reports and dashboards for monitoring key metrics including community impact and financial performance

Develops and implements organizational data models

Lead and/or participate in organizational initiatives related to research, reporting and analytics
Key Responsibilities: Strategic Support and Analytics

Conducts comprehensive analysis; highlighting key insights and recommendations on donor strategies, fundraising initiatives and impact strategy

Contributes to the development of operation strategies Including measurement, tracking, trends analysis, benchmarking and goal setting where applicable

Educate and support staff to strengthen their data knowledge and facilitate effective communication and data usage
Key Responsibilities: Business Process Improvement

Support data governance practices and activities, contribute to development and maintenance of business glossary and data quality standards

Review methodologies, procedures and workflows to identify areas to improve operational efficiency

Develops and manages process documentation

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education
-
Undergraduate degree focusing on Computer Science, Business, Economics, Mathematics or equivalent education/experience
Experience
-
Three (3) years' experience as a business, technical, data analyst or related role with experience in researching, organizing, analyzing and presenting data for management use
Skills
-
Proficiency in the use of databases, spreadsheets, project management tools at a moderately to highly complex level
-
Advanced skills in data querying (SQL) and experience with associated BI Tools (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.)

Experience with digital product development life cycles

Knowledge of scripting or statistical languages (Python, R, etc.) is an asset

Experience with any of the following is an asset, but not required; Advanced data analytics, Machine Learning, Predictive and/or statistical modelling

Ability to use and interpret contact management databases

Skilled in evaluating, developing and implementing processes and procedures to achieve objectives and use data effectively

Ability to manage and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment by adapting and modifying sequence of work, methods, and standards to meet changing conditions

This is a bargaining unit role with CUPE Local 1760. This position is at pay grade 39 which is $92,310.40 annually.
Candidates must live within 80 KMs (commuting distance) from our office as this position is currently a hybrid role and office attendance is required.
