Overview:
VEI Contracting Inc. (VEI) is an environmental contracting company based in Kitchener, Ontario, specializing in the remediation of contaminated sites. The Project Manager – Water Treatment, is a multi-disciplinary role responsible for the successful delivery of water treatment projects across Ontario and Canada. This position leads the full lifecycle of projects including business development, estimating, project execution, financial management, and client relations.
The role is primarily office- and client-focused, coordinating internal teams and subcontractors to deliver effective water treatment solutions for projects in construction, environmental remediation, mining, and oil & gas sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Review geotechnical, hydrogeological reports, and construction, shoring, foundation, excavation and other engineering plans to determine project requirements
- Visit potential and active sites and client offices to understand project needs and define scopes of work required to satisfy client requirements and objectives
- Lead and manage water treatment projects from award through to completion, ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, and budget
- Develop project execution plans, schedules, and resource requirements
- Coordinate internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to execute projects efficiently
- Monitor project performance, proactively manage risks, and implement corrective actions where required
- Oversee project documentation including reports, work plans, and client deliverables
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and proposals for water treatment systems and services
- Review technical documents (e.g., environmental, hydrogeological, civil and industrial plans) to define scopes of work
- Collaborate with technical staff to develop practical and cost-effective treatment solutions
- Support tender submissions and participate in contract negotiations
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and industry partners
- Identify new opportunities and actively contribute to marketing and business development initiatives
- Participate in meetings, presentations, and industry events to promote VEI’s capabilities
- Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking
- Prepare and submit progress billings and final invoices
- Monitor project profitability and ensure alignment with financial targets
- Support internal financial reporting and performance tracking
- Review and assist with permits and approvals with various government agencies and regulatory authorities and ensure compliance with permits and approval requirements
- Ensure project activities align with applicable environmental and regulatory standards
- Maintain awareness of industry regulations and best practices
- Provide high-level coordination of field operations without direct day-to-day field execution responsibilities
- Support troubleshooting and technical problem-solving in collaboration with field and technical teams
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, tools, and systems
- Participate in regular meetings with the division team and management
- Participate in active marketing and business development efforts
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
- Assist with after-hours troubleshooting when necessary, on active projects
- Train and mentor other staff on best practices for water treatment services
- Work safely in accordance with VEI workplace health & safety procedures

Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of project management experience in water treatment, dewatering, remediation or related environmental services
- Understanding of hydrogeological, geotechnical, various groundwater control and treatment principles.
- Experience managing projects in construction, remediation, mining, or oil & gas sectors is considered a strong asset
- Demonstrated experience in estimating, budgeting, and financial management of projects
- Strong understanding of water treatment systems and environmental project workflows
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and client management skills
- Strong business acumen with a focus on project profitability and growth
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and reports
- Effective negotiation and proposal development skills
- Problem-solving mindset with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders
- Ability to visit and engage with active job sites
- Ability to travel and stay out of town as required on a temporary basis
- Ability to communicate and provide project updates in a timely manner with clients, supervisors, project managers
- Prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner, including meeting deadlines with respect to proposal and tender deadlines
- Willingness to travel occasionally within Ontario and across Canada as required
- Valid G driver’s license and insurable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and other applicable software applications
Work Arrangements
In-person at VEI’s Kitchener office, with incidental travel to project sites anywhere in Canada.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: $80k to 95k/year(depending on experience)
- RRSP: Eligible for employer-matched RRSP contributions
