POSITION SUMMARY:

The Drumming Instructor and Educational Assistant is a dual role within the student learning team. As a Drumming Instructor, you will lead the school’s drumming and singing program, integrating cultural knowledge, music instruction, and community traditions to enhance student engagement and learning. As an Educational Assistant, you will work under the direction of a teacher to provide academic support and assist in the education and supervision of students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drumming Instructor:

Curriculum and Cultural Instruction – develop course outlines for drumming and singing. Teach the history and cultural significance of drumming, singing, and traditional dances. Teach both well-known and original drum songs tailored for students.
Student Engagement and Events – accompany students to events to showcase their skills and represent the school. Promote student participation in cultural activities, language, and traditional arts and crafts.
Classroom Management and Supervision – maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Provide behavior guidance and supports school-wide student supervision in halls, labs, and lunch areas.
Assessment and Professional Development – continuously evaluates student performance and progress. Maintain a high level of cultural knowledge and integrates this into instruction.

Educational Assistant:

Student Support and Instructional Assistance – work with students in small groups or on an individual basis. Assist in remedial work, reinforcement, or practice of skills. Support preparation of individual or small group projects. Oversee the class while the teacher works with small groups or individuals. Assist in marking exams or worksheets.
Classroom and Curriculum Support – assist teachers in preparing curriculum materials and tests. Operate laminating, duplicating, and audio-visual equipment. Circulate curriculum materials, assignments, and texts; distribute and collect materials and maintain records. Assist in classroom management tasks.
Student Safety and Supervision – supervise the loading and unloading of buses as assigned. Deal with minor student issues as required. Assist in organizing and supervising field trips and off-campus activities.
Administrative Support – assist in the maintenance of records and files. Maintain associated records for materials, games, and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Desired Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED (CAEC) is required.
Standard First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture, languages, traditions, and protocols.
Extensive experience and background in drumming, singing, and dancing.
Experience delivering programs with emphasis on music, arts, and group learning.
Experience working with students in classroom or group settings.
