Unit Electric is a busy manufacturing facility located in Okanagan Falls, BC. We design and manufacture standard and custom electrical power, distribution and control equipment for mining, renewable energy, oil & gas, commercial, industrial and transportation.
About the Role
We are seeking a positive, detail oriented Mechanical Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting mechanical systems and components while working collaboratively with engineering, production, and project teams. Key Responsibilities
- Create mechanical designs, layouts and drawings of electrical switchgear, industrial power & control equipment, modular buildings and substations.
- Prepare accurate drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and technical documentation.
- Review designs for accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, and compliance with specifications.
- Collaborate closely with the engineering team, production/fabrication teams, purchasing and project managers.
- Support the shop floor by responding to technical questions and resolving design issues.
- Maintain organized design files and documentation following company standards.
- Contribute positively to team discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of company engineering standards and procedures.
- Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize designs & processes.
- Recommend improvements to current design of products.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
- Interface with the electrical engineering department to ensure seamless integration between mechanical and electrical aspects of the design.
Qualifications
- Mechanical Technologist diploma is required.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant design experience.
- Experience with 3D mechanical design & drafting (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD is considered an asset.
- Competent in MS Word and Excel.
- Previous steel design experience preferred.
- Ability to integrate new technologies into equipment to ensure that the organization is meeting its high-quality goals and objectives.
- Competence in designing according to ISO 9001 standards.
- Exceptional grasp of diverse, fundamental mechanical engineering concepts and relationships.
- Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Positive, professional attitude with a strong work ethic.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $65,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
