The Role
The Project Manager (“PM”) is responsible for managing all aspects of the Vista Solutions project life cycle, from sales order hand-off through to project completion. Working in close collaboration with the Technical Sales Team, Engineering, and Administrative Teams, the PM plays an instrumental role in driving project success and supporting Vista’s corporate vision of achieving world class excellence and leadership in the field of machine vision integration.
What You'll Do
Under the direction of the President, the duties and responsibilities of the PM include, but are not limited to, the following:
Resource Management
- Manage day-to-day direction to the Project Management team, overseeing individual workloads, ensuring accountability to project and departmental standards and leading performance management across the department.
- Manage allocation of Engineering resources by collaborating with Engineering Management, Sales Team and other PMs during daily and weekly resource planning meetings;
- Ensure engineering resources across all active projects and high probability pipeline are scheduled appropriately;
- Coordinate all travel required for assigned projects.
Project Management – Day-to-Day
- Create and manage open issues logs and project timelines using MS Project;
- Manage the flow of internal and external project communications;
- Provide timely project hand-off details to Engineering prior to commencement of work;
- Coordinate activities of technical staff and sub-contract partners, including supervising installation and deployment support at machine builders and client facilities;
- Manage the design, build, and acceptance process for projects, ensuring equipment meets client design and manufacturing standards and aligns with project proposal documentation;
- Maintain and complete client documentation;
- Provide weekly project health updates to the management team;
- Lead project closeout meetings with internal and external stakeholders to assess project success and document lessons learned;
- Participate in weekly internal project status meetings with individual sales team members.
- Procurement, Shipping, and Inventory Management
- Initiate and coordinate the procurement process for materials and sub-contract requirements;
- Coordinate hardware shipping, including obtaining necessary information to support cross-border shipping;
- Support inventory management through product utilization and inventory review sessions.
Project Accounting & BD Initiatives
- Review project proposals to support accurate forecasting of PM hours and overall project requirements;
- Provide accurate invoice summaries to account managers for billing;
- Support continuous improvement initiative in collaboration with the IT and ERP Manager.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant project management experience; OR a minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on project management experience in lieu of a degree, preferably within a project-based environment in the field of automation or machine vision;
- Knowledge of PLC, electronics, robot programming, and automation;
- Demonstrated ability to lead, be assertive, and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment;
- Prior experience managing, mentoring, or leading a team of project managers or technical professionals in a project-based environment is preferred;
- Prior experience working cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders;
- Keen interest and/or experience in machine vision, automation, robotics, or programming;
- Prior experience working within an ERP system, particularly NetSuite;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities;
- Advanced organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage a high volume of concurrent projects;
- Analytical and critical thinker with high attention to detail;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
- Possess a valid G Class driver’s license and reliable vehicle, as the ability to travel with a personal vehicle to clients’ locations is a significant and inherent component of the job;
- Ability to travel regionally and internationally, including crossing the US/Canada border on short notice as required and;
- Candidates must, at the time of hire, meet the eligibility requirements of the E-2 visa classification.
- PMP certification is considered an asset; and
- Police clearance upon hire.
