Position purpose:
Responsible for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of all aquatic programs and services, as well as providing aquatic program instruction and program administration. Monitors and provides direction to all sessional aquatic staff, volunteers and course conductors. Responsible for the safe and effective delivery and supervision of participants during swimming lessons and other aquatic programs. Develop training for sessional staff in accordance to the pool regulations. Coordinate and plan rental contracts for outside user groups.
Minimum qualifications
- Minimum of College Diploma in Recreation Studies or related field from an accredited College/University.
- Minimum of three years previous related aquatic programming experience for all ages and abilities, including one year in a public sector environment;
- Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check, deemed as satisfactory by the Town;
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR ¿C¿
- Current Lifesaving Society Instructor
- National Lifeguard Service
- Aquatic Supervisory Training
- One advanced instructor/examiner certification.
- National Waterfront (or willing to obtain)
- Valid Class ¿G¿ Driver¿s Licence and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business;

Reports To: Active Living and Aquatics Supervisor and Manager of Recreation Services
Responsible for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of all aquatic programs and services, as well as providing aquatic program instruction and program administration. Monitors and provides direction to all sessional aquatic staff, volunteers and course conductors. Responsible for the safe and effective delivery and supervision of participants during swimming lessons and other aquatic programs. Develop training for sessional staff in accordance to the pool regulations. Coordinate and plan rental contracts for outside user groups.
- Provides, through direct delivery, aquatic programs and/or lifeguard services, ensuring high quality program delivery and excellent customer service.
- Ensures that all staff adhere to the Ontario Ministry of Health standards, the Town of Georgina¿s policies and procedures, and acceptable industry standards through legislation including, but not limited to the Amusement Devices Act, the Day Nurseries Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Trespass to Property Act etc.
- Supervises sessional/seasonal staff and volunteers including screening, interviews, recommending for hire, orientating, training, monitoring and conducting performance evaluations of seasonal/sessional aquatic staff. Develops staff training as required by the Ontario Ministry of Health and based on current industry standards. Assists with the preparation of work schedules and daily duties.
- Prepares and maintains documentation of sessional aquatic staff including emergency contact information, qualifications, evaluations, WSIB forms etc.
- Prepares documents and maintains statistical information on all aquatic programs as directed by Active Living and Aquatic Supervisor and/or Manager of Recreation Services. Maintains an inventory of supplies.
- Prepares and supervises the monitoring of camp swims and school swim programs.
- Scheduling of school facilities for community run programs,issuing permits and booking rentals in co-operation with Boards of Education.
- Conducts program interest surveys, analyzes results and makes recommendations on program changes to seasonal programs and special events and implements changes as appropriate
- Prepares edits and submits program/special event promotional materials, bulletins and copy for assigned area for publication in the Town of Georgina web page. Promotes and builds awareness of recreational opportunities available amongst all residents and provides information on same;
- Ensures Aquatics web content is timely, relevant and accurate at all times.
- Develops a revenue generation plan across specialized program portfolio; monitors revenue plan throughout the year in order to achieve budget;
- Communicates with Facility Operations staff regarding program, special events, facility maintenance, safety issues, and set-up requirements for facility use;
- Responsible for volunteer recruitment; screening, interviews, and orientations; prepares and delivers sessional volunteer trainings; supervises and monitors the activities of the aquatic volunteers on a regular basis.
- Responsible for the implementation of aquatic leadership programs including scheduling, brochures, agreements with course conductors, preparation of equipment and all administration pertaining to leadership programs.
- Responds to enquiries and concerns from the general public, course participants and/or parents, and documents complaints, problems and incidents to the Active Living and Aquatic Supervisor and/or Manager of Recreation Services.
- Liaises with outside agencies i.e. The Lifesaving Society, schools and social services agencies regarding the daily programs and award requisitions for aquatic programs.
- Promotes water safety and assists in the promotion of aquatic programs and services throughout the community through the use of bulletin boards, school visitation, community events etc.
- Assists in the development of program initiatives, policies and procedures, standards, goals and objectives.
- Runs regular aquatic staff meetings and trainings.
- Meets the standards required for certification to instruct, lifeguard and supervise according to the industry standards as well as the Town of Georgina standards.
- Attends York Regional Aquatic Committee (YRAC) meetings in order to stay up to date with industry standards and discuss aquatic trends/ideas for future programs.
- Under the direction of the Active Living and Aquatic Supervisor and the Manager of Recreation Services is responsible for the safe, organized operation of the pool and programs in accordance with Ontario regulations and Town of Georgina Policies.
- Performs other related duties that may occur in an unplanned or emergency situation.
