Product-Minded Software Developer / Technical LeadEarly-Stage Software, Field Operations, SaaS Spinout Opportunity
Humane Solutions is looking for a product-minded software developer to help take a suite of field-tested operational tools through final implementation, product hardening, commercialization, and eventual SaaS spinout.
This is not a standard developer role.
We are an established service business building proprietary software and technology around real operational problems in the field. The current priority is a core internal platform that is nearing full implementation inside our own operation. Once it is proven, stabilized, and fully adopted in-house, the plan is to spin it out as a standalone SaaS product targeting a large, underserved field service management market.
We are looking for someone who can help us get through the last internal push, then move quickly and strategically toward commercialization.
The right person will not just be writing code. They will help shape the product, improve the user experience, support demos, fix bugs, think through implementation, make architectural decisions, and help prepare the platform for scale.
This role is ideal for someone who has experience taking software from idea to MVP, from MVP to real-world implementation, and from internal tool to commercial-grade application.
The Opportunity
Most early-stage software opportunities start with a concept, a pitch deck, and untested assumptions.
This opportunity is different.
The software is being built inside a real operating company, for real users, solving real workflow problems. The product is being validated in-house before being taken to market. That means the person joining this role will be working with immediate feedback, real operational pressure, and a clear path from internal implementation to external commercialization.
The broader opportunity includes multiple technology projects and future product concepts in the pipeline, including internal operational tools, client-facing systems, interactive digital experiences, IoT-enabled field infrastructure, automation, reporting, and commercial SaaS opportunities.
The initial focus, however, is clear: help finish, stabilize, and strengthen the primary field operations platform so it can become central to our business, then help prepare it for market.
This is a ground-floor opportunity for someone who wants to help build a company, not just complete tickets.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will work directly with the founder/operator to help move a developing software platform from near-complete internal implementation to a reliable, scalable, and commercially presentable product.
Your work may include:
- Building and improving core platform features
- Debugging and stabilizing existing functionality
- Improving user experience for internal staff, field users, and future customers
- Helping prioritize what needs to be built now versus later
- Supporting demos, presentations, and early customer conversations
- Turning operational feedback into practical product improvements
- Helping prepare the platform for commercialization
- Improving reliability, performance, security, and scalability
- Supporting integrations with third-party tools and services
- Creating internal tools, dashboards, reporting features, and automation workflows
- Documenting systems clearly enough that future developers can build on them
- Helping evaluate technical tradeoffs and long-term architecture
- Supporting multiple smaller software initiatives connected to the broader business
- Helping transition the platform from internal operating system to SaaS product
This role will require hands-on coding, technical judgment, product thinking, and practical execution.
Who This Role Is For
This role is for someone who is comfortable in the messy middle of software development.
You understand that early-stage software is not just about clean code. It is also about momentum, triage, user feedback, business priorities, demos, bugs, imperfect requirements, operational reality, and deciding what not to build yet.
You may be a strong full-stack developer, a senior developer looking for more ownership, a technical product builder, or someone who has worked in startups, SaaS, internal tools, field service software, logistics, operations, GIS, IoT, or data-heavy platforms.
The ideal candidate is likely more experienced than the initial role or compensation level would normally require, but sees the upside in joining early and helping build something significant.
You should be comfortable coming down into the trenches at the beginning because you understand the potential upside of being early to the right opportunity.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who can think and operate across product, software, and business needs.
You should have experience with some or most of the following:
- Building MVPs or early-stage software products
- Taking rough software into real-world use
- Full-stack web application development
- Backend systems, APIs, databases, and integrations
- Frontend development and user experience improvement
- Debugging, refactoring, and stabilizing existing codebases
- SaaS architecture or commercial software development
- Working with non-technical or semi-technical stakeholders
- Translating business workflows into software systems
- Supporting demos, launches, users, and implementation
- Making practical build-versus-buy decisions
- Scaling software strategically without overengineering too early
You do not need to know our industry already. You do need to be curious, practical, and able to learn complex operational workflows quickly.
Helpful Technical Experience
The exact stack can be discussed, but experience in areas like the following would be valuable:
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Python
- Modern frontend frameworks
- Backend API development
- PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- Geospatial data, mapping, or GIS tools
- Dashboarding, reporting, or data visualization
- Mobile-friendly web applications
- Cloud deployment and infrastructure
- Authentication, permissions, and multi-tenant systems
- IoT integrations or sensor-based systems
- Automation platforms and third-party API integrations
- AI-assisted development workflows
You do not need to check every box. Strong product judgment, execution ability, and practical development experience matter more than a perfect keyword match.
What Makes This Role Different
This is not a narrow “developer wanted” position.
We are looking for someone who can help build the technical foundation for a future software company.
The right person may eventually have the opportunity to move into a senior technical, product, or executive role as the software is spun out into a separate entity. There may also be opportunities for future ownership participation, leadership compensation, and a central role in building the company from the ground up.
Those opportunities will depend on contribution, fit, execution, and results.
The immediate role requires hands-on work. The long-term opportunity is much larger.
We need someone who can help finish the product, support implementation, make it stable, make it presentable, help get it ready for customers, and think strategically about how it scales.
Compensation and Upside
Initial compensation will reflect the current stage of the project and business, but this role is being designed for someone who is interested in more than a standard paycheck.
For the right person, there is meaningful long-term upside.
As the software is commercialized and spun out, there may be significant opportunities for:
- Senior technical leadership
- Executive-level compensation
- Ownership or equity participation
- Product leadership
- Building and managing a future development team
- A central role in the creation of a new SaaS company
We are being direct about this because the ideal candidate will understand both sides of the opportunity: the early-stage trench work and the potential long-term reward.
This is best suited to someone who wants to earn a major role by helping create the value, not someone looking for a fully polished corporate position from day one.
Ideal Candidate
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Have built or helped build software from the ground up
- Have taken an MVP into real-world use
- Can work independently without needing every task fully specified
- Are comfortable with ambiguity and fast iteration
- Care about practical outcomes, not just technical elegance
- Can communicate clearly with non-developers
- Can balance speed, quality, and long-term maintainability
- Are interested in business strategy, not just code
- Want to be early in a legitimate software opportunity
- Are willing to help with demos, bugs, support, and implementation
- Can think like a future technical leader or co-builder
Not a Fit If
This role is probably not a fit if you:
- Only want clearly defined tickets
- Are uncomfortable with early-stage ambiguity
- Do not want to interact with users or business operations
- Only want to work on one narrow part of the stack
- Need a fully mature engineering department around you
- Are not interested in product or business strategy
- Are looking for a low-risk, low-ownership role
About Humane Solutions
Humane Solutions is an established service business using technology, operational innovation, and field expertise to modernize a traditional industry.
We are actively building software and technology around the problems we encounter directly in our own operation. Our goal is to create tools that are not theoretical, but tested in the field, refined through real use, and then commercialized where they can solve similar problems for a much larger market.
We believe there is a major opportunity to disrupt outdated field service systems with better software, better data, better workflows, and a more modern approach to how service companies operate.
