As a Test Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring products and systems meet customer specifications, regulatory standards, and performance expectations through rigorous testing, analysis, and validation activities. Working collaboratively with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams, you will contribute to the successful development and continuous improvement of complex electro-mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design, Testing & Development
- Design, develop, and refine machines, components, tools, fixtures, and equipment based on engineering analysis, testing outcomes, and performance requirements.
- Conduct research into the feasibility, operation, performance, and reliability of mechanical components and systems.
- Develop, maintain, and execute comprehensive test plans aligned with customer requirements, engineering standards, and regulatory expectations.
- Perform physical testing, simulations, and validation activities to assess product feasibility, safety, functionality, and overall performance.
- Analyze the dynamics, vibration, and structural performance of mechanical systems to support design integrity and optimization.
- Generate detailed technical reports documenting test procedures, findings, analysis, and recommendations for product improvements.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to support product development and ensure successful project execution.
- Conduct root cause analysis on in-field failures and develop corrective actions and testing strategies to improve product reliability and performance.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate and organized documentation of engineering activities, test plans, checklists, results, and technical records.
- Prepare status updates and present findings, progress, and recommendations to Program Managers and key stakeholders as required.
- Foster open communication and effective collaboration across internal teams to support project objectives and problem-solving initiatives.
- Liaise with customers and external stakeholders as required, ensuring all communications, requirements, and activities are appropriately documented.
Health, Safety & Other Duties
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as organizational quality and environmental management systems.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of quality, safety, and operational excellence.
- Travel occasionally as required to support testing, project implementation, or client needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate is a technically strong and solutions-oriented engineering professional with a passion for testing, product validation, and continuous improvement in complex manufacturing environments. You bring deep expertise in electro-mechanical systems and hands-on experience in test fixture design, instrumentation, calibration, troubleshooting, and failure analysis, with a proven ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions. Comfortable working in highly regulated military and commercial environments, you have experience testing to structural, environmental, and EMI/EMC standards and thrive in collaborative, project-based settings. You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, are confident interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, and leverage tools such as CAD software and finite element analysis to support product and process design. Backed by a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, you are driven by technical excellence and a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable solutions.
What will make you stand out:
- Hands-on testing expertise: Proven experience designing and developing test fixtures, instrumentation systems, and calibration processes for complex electro-mechanical products.
- Advanced simulation capabilities: Strong experience with static and dynamic, linear and non-linear modeling, particularly using ANSYS for finite element analysis and validation.
- Military and commercial testing exposure: Experience testing products to military and commercial standards, including structural, environmental, and EMI/EMC requirements.
- Design-to-validation mindset: A strong background in both product and process design, with the ability to lead root cause investigations and recommend practical design improvements.
