Job Overview
The Electrical Engineer (Renewable/Power Operations) is responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in the design, construction, commissioning, and turnover of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role works closely with the client’s project execution teams, contractors, vendors, and technical subject matter experts to ensure project designs meet technical requirements, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and operational objectives.
The successful candidate will support all phases of project development and execution, from design review and equipment specification through construction, commissioning, and project turnover. This position requires strong expertise in medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, renewable power generation technologies, and power plant controls, combined with exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

Ensure the technical requirements of the client are incorporated into the design, construction, commissioning, and turnover of renewable energy projects, with a focus on medium- and high-voltage electrical systems.

Provide technical expertise for wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects during the development of technical requirement documents, equipment specifications, facility designs, and turnover activities.

Review technical documentation submitted by contractors and vendors to verify compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.

Provide guidance on system configuration, equipment selection, and design features to ensure alignment with technical requirements and project objectives.

Support project development teams in creating equipment datasheets and technical procurement documentation.

Participate in technical meetings with contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve technical issues.

Identify and resolve technical challenges related to design requirements, codes, standards, and project execution.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to incorporate operational, maintenance, reliability, and business requirements into technical documentation.

Ensure quality assurance, commissioning, startup, inspection, storage, maintenance, pre-commissioning, pre-energization, and turnover requirements are appropriately defined and implemented.

Provide technical support during the negotiation and execution of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) agreements and equipment supply contracts.

Manage and coordinate technical subject matter experts from multiple disciplines throughout project design, construction, and commissioning activities.

Support project execution teams during construction by providing technical guidance and assisting with commissioning and turnover acceptance activities.

Mentor and support team members on technical matters within areas of expertise.

Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence.

Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required to support project and business objectives.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Minimum of 7 years of experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems.

Strong expertise in DC and AC electrical systems from distribution through transmission voltage levels.

Experience with power plant control systems, automation, and electrical infrastructure associated with renewable generation facilities.

Demonstrated experience supporting design review activities and coordinating input from internal and external technical subject matter experts.

Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate engineering drawings, technical specifications, contract documents, vendor documentation, and installation procedures.

Knowledge of equipment installation practices, electrical interconnection requirements, grid compliance testing, and SCADA system design is considered an asset.

Strong understanding of applicable regulatory requirements, electrical codes, industry standards, and best practices related to renewable energy generation projects.

Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng. or PE) is required.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams, as well as other enterprise software platforms.
