Ontario One Call (OOC) is a Public Safety Administrative Authority; protecting Ontario by enabling safe digging. At OOC, public safety is at the heart of everything we do.
Since 2012, in Ontario, it's the law that any party planning to dig must contact OOC before they dig. OOC connects people planning to dig with the owners of underground pipes, cables, and other infrastructure to help prevent costly damages, service disruptions, and safety hazards. We also regulate an efficient locate system, foster industry wide collaboration, and promote safe, timely excavation across Ontario.
OOC is governed by a diverse Board of Directors, with experienced leaders representing underground infrastructure owners, excavators, ministry appointees and others dedicated to protecting Ontarians. Together, we work to shape a safer Ontario through collaboration, regulation, and education.
Safe Excavation starts with us.

Ontario One Call is seeking a Data Engineer to support the Data Engineering and AI Enablement team in building, operating, and continuously improving reliable data pipelines and analytics foundations.
This role is hands-on and delivery focused. The Data Engineer designs and implements data pipelines, transformations, and data quality controls using Microsoft Fabric, SQL, and Python to support enterprise reporting, operational analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
The successful candidate demonstrates solid engineering fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and stakeholders. The role works with guidance from the Manager and Senior Data Engineers, escalating risks and issues appropriately while contributing to reliable and auditable data operations.
- Implement data pipelines, transformations, and curated datasets in Microsoft Fabric in alignment with approved enterprise architecture patterns and standards defined by the Senior Data & AI Architect.
- Translate architectural designs, data models, and technical standards into working, production ready implementations across ingestion, transformation, and serving layers.
- Build and maintain batch (and where applicable, near real time) data workflows using Fabric Lakehouse, Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, and notebooks, ensuring consistency with enterprise integration principles.
- Develop SQL based transformations and data models that adhere to defined dimensional modeling standards (facts, dimensions, KPIs) and support analytics, reporting, and downstream AI use cases.
- Implement Python based data engineering logic for ingestion, validation, automation, and pipeline orchestration, following established coding and deployment standards.
- Apply and operationalize data quality, validation, and observability controls (e.g., reconciliation checks, logging, exception handling) in line with enterprise data governance and compliance expectations.
- Monitor and support pipeline executions, investigate failures or data quality issues, and escalate systemic or recurring risks to the Manager and Senior Data & AI Architect with clear technical context.
- Support implementation of semantic models and curated datasets used by Power BI and analytics teams, ensuring KPI logic and metric definitions are implemented consistently.
- Contribute to technical documentation, lineage notes, and operational runbooks, supporting audit readiness, knowledge transfer, and long term platform sustainability.
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Data & AI Architect, Manager, Data Analysts, and stakeholders during sprint planning and delivery to ensure solutions meet architectural intent, delivery timelines, and business requirements.
- Identify opportunities for incremental improvement in pipeline reliability, performance, and maintainability, and provide implementation level feedback to inform architectural and platform evolution.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related role.
- Practical experience working with Microsoft Fabric or closely related Microsoft/Azure data services in a delivery environment.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, including writing transformations, building data models, and basic performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience using Python for data processing, automation, and pipeline logic.
- Experience supporting data quality practices and troubleshooting pipeline or data issues.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and modern data architectures, including Lakehouse and warehouse concepts.
- Ability to deliver reliably within defined standards and priorities, and to communicate progress, risks, and blockers clearly.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Microsoft certifications (preferred), such as Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-700) or Azure Data Engineer Associate.
- Experience supporting Power BI semantic models and enterprise reporting environments.
- Familiarity with Git, version control, and CI/CD practices for data engineering deployments.
- Experience working in regulated, operational, or public-sector environments.
