WHERE YOU'LL BE WORKING

Ross Video is a world leader in High Definition Video Production Equipment, designed and manufactured in Canada and sold world-wide. Our products are used by a who's who of the global entertainment industry, including top broadcast networks like NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox in the USA; Rogers, CTV and the CBC in Canada and others around the world from Fiji to Finland and everywhere in between. We are # 1 in providing behind the scenes HD production gear used in Sports Stadiums including places where the Atlanta Falcons, NY Mets, LA Lakers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Bills play. Our equipment was used extensively at the Vancouver 2010 and other Olympic games. Our systems are used by top acts including Springsteen, Blink 182, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Police to name a few. Top webcasters like Revision 3 and MLB.com use Ross. Our equipment is even used on the International Space Station. Join Ross and you will have a chance to work on advanced technology used in a wide variety of very cool ways by our clients.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Reporting to the Vice President, Product Security and Ross Research Labs, the successful candidate will use their curiosity, ingenuity and problem-solving skills to develop Catena Interface definitions, SDKs that implement them, and demonstration services that use the SDKs.

Catena is a major initiative in the Broadcast Industry, led by Ross Video to standardize a control plane that is secure, cloud scale, multi-vendor. The interface definition is hosted by a leading international standards development body, SMPTE here: https://github.com/SMPTE/st2138-a, and the Ross SDKs here: https://github.com/rossvideo/Catena.

This position is located at our Ottawa Campus on Auriga Drive and is expected to be in the office 3 days a week. Our pay rates range from $24 - $35 per hour, based on experience.

WHAT YOU KNOW

Currently enrolled in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering.
Linux usage, scripting and basic administration
Computer languages such as C++, Javascript, Go, Rust
Familiarity with software development environments (Git, vscode, JIRA)
Debuggers such as gdb, valgrind
Docker and its daemon, Kubernetes is a big plus
Networking Protocols: gRPC, HTTP(S), TCP, UDP, IP, Ethernet, RTP, SDP

WHO YOU ARE

- Can apply divide & conquer techniques to problem solving
- Can clearly summarize and explain problems and suggest potential solutions
- Are comfortable asking for help
- Are comfortable with abandoning existing work in favour of new, more promising approaches
Fast learner with ability to use informal resources such as online forums like stack exchange, and AI assistants including ChatGPT and copilot.
People in this role will often encounter information that’s confidential to Ross Video and its technology partners. You must be able to handle such information with care and discretion.
