The AMA is recruiting for the position of Graphic Designer. As a member of the Advocacy and Engagement team, the Graphic Designer will play a critical role in ensuring that AMA initiatives are supported by designing and delivering clear, on-brand visual solutions across print and digital channels.
This is a temporary position with a one-year term and there may be a possibility for extension.

The AMA has a hybrid work environment. The successful candidate will be based out of our Edmonton or Calgary office and will have the opportunity to work from home but will be required to go into the office or attend in person when required. Travel to attend in-person meetings or events will be required irregularly.
Team Overview
Advocacy and Engagement is the AMA’s hub for connecting physicians, policy and the public. In support of all AMA branches, the team leads physician engagement and representation through government relations, media and public relations, advocacy and member communications. Additionally, the A&E team supports and provides guidance on internal communications within the AMA.
The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating clear, engaging and on-brand visual design across print and digital channels. This role develops high quality visual materials that communicate complex ideas effectively, including publications, reports, data visualizations, slide decks and other advocacy and engagement assets. Working in a service oriented, collaborative environment, the Graphic Designer partners with internal teams to advise on visual approach, uphold/enhance the AMA’s brand identity and deliver design solutions that support both internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tactical visual design advice and support for internal and client facing projects across the organization.
- Create high quality designed materials to support projects, events, products, publications, digital tools, websites and social media channels.
- Develop data visualizations for internal and external audiences to improve clarity, comprehension and readability of complex information.
- Lead visual design work to support internal and external activities, including publications, presentations, events and advocacy materials.
- Provide design consultation and input for digital platforms, including websites, intranet, e-learning and event management systems.
- Ensure adherence to the AMA’s visual identity and contribute input to the ongoing stewardship and evolution of brand standards.
- Organize and manage brand assets, including logos, visual identity materials and proprietary imagery.
- Perform other related duties as required in support of the AMA’s members and organizational objectives.

2 years post-secondary diploma in Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, Visual Communications or related field.
- 2+ years of experience creating visual designs for a wide variety of print and digital platforms.
- Demonstrated experience working with multiple stakeholders and managing concurrent design projects. Experience working as in-house graphic design support preferred.
- Experience in health care and/or professional associations is an asset.

- Experience applying and upholding organizational brand standards.
- Understanding of design requirements for a diversity of media channels.
- Ability to work in a service-based environment.
- Ability to clearly explain visual concepts, provide practical design advice and incorporate feedback from non-designers in a constructive way.
- Strong focus on accuracy, readability and professional polish, combined with sound judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficiency with industry standard design tools and the ability to prepare files for both digital and print production.

The salary for this role is between $66,060 - $85,880 per annum.
