The Role

The Lead French Teacher & Language Training Supervisor oversees instructional quality, teacher support, and day-to-day training continuity for French language training delivered to adult learners.

This role combines French teaching expertise, trainer supervision, instructional quality control, substitute coordination, learner assessments, reporting, and communication with internal teams and government stakeholders.

The successful candidate will support trainers through Microsoft Teams, email, and phone; coordinate substitute coverage; step in as a substitute trainer when needed; train and onboard new trainers; participate in interviewing and hiring; and ensure course delivery aligns with approved curriculum, learning outcomes, and program standards.

This is an ideal role for an experienced French language teacher who is ready to support, guide, and supervise other trainers while helping maintain a high-quality learning experience for adult learners.

Key Responsibilities

Provide pedagogical leadership & supervision to a team of instructors delivering French and/or English language training to adult learners.
Train, mentor, and coach teachers, offering ongoing guidance, feedback, and instructional support
Monitor instructional quality and ensure course delivery aligns with approved curriculum, learning outcomes, and program standards
Collaborate with internal coordinators and government contacts to share updates on training delivery and address pedagogical considerations
Meet with students to discuss attendance, progress, learning strategies, and other course-related or pedagogical matters
Prepare clear, timely reports on course progress, learner progress, attendance, and instructional outcomes
Manage and schedule substitute trainers when coverage is needed (e.g., instructor illness, medical appointments, unforeseen absences)
Substitute classes when other substitute trainers are not available to ensure continuity of training
Conduct end-of-course oral evaluations to assess learner mastery of course material and performance against objectives
Conduct language assessments to determine recommended training hours required for learners to achieve target levels (e.g., B or C)

Mandatory Requirements (Applicants must meet all criteria)

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Bilingual in both French and English. You will be required to speak, read and write in both languages for this position.
Minimum of 2 years of experience or 1,800 hours in managing teaching staff as a pedagogical advisor, human resource manager or other relevant role.
Minimum of 400 hours of teaching experience
Bachelor’s degree from a recognized Canadian university OR a degree awarded by a foreign institution with an acceptable Canadian equivalency assessment (e.g., WES or another recognized Canadian academic credentials assessment service)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) PFL2 curriculum and/or the DND Language Training Curriculum.
Experience conducting language assessments and oral evaluations (including placement assessments and end-of-course evaluations)

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
