We have obtained FDA approval and officially begun the commercial launch of the Globe® Pulsed Field System. This is a pivotal and exciting time in our journey, as we bring this life-changing technology to patients!
In this role, you will be joining Kardium’s manufacturing automation team, and working closely with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to supports designing and adding automated manufacturing equipment to our facilities.
Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.
Meaningful work you will be a part of
You will play a key role in Kardium’s manufacturing scale-up by specifying, developing, and deploying control systems for custom automated equipment, with a focus on machine vision.
As a subject matter expert in vision systems, you will lead the integration of vision technologies into our manufacturing processes—a new and strategically important capability at Kardium. Your work will span the full control system (vision hardware, application software, GUI development, and equipment interfaces) as well as the entire system lifecycle, from requirements definition and design through implementation, validation, and ongoing support.
In addition, you will establish the tools, standards, and workflows required to successfully deploy vision systems within a medical device manufacturing environment.
Examples of vision applications at Kardium include defect detection, automated alignment, and precision tool positioning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design, select, integrate, and maintain vision and control systems for automated manufacturing equipment, including GUIs and application logic
- Establish internal standards, procedures, tools, and workflows for the design, integration, and validation of vision systems, as the first experienced vision specialist on the Automation team
- Capture, document, and communicate system requirements with internal stakeholders and external vendors
- Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary design reviews related to vision and control systems
- Commission systems, transfer them to production, and provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement
- Provide technical mentorship to junior team members in the areas of controls and machine vision

You will be successful in this role because you possess these attributes:
Must have qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant engineering discipline
- Extensive (10+ years) experience working with vision-based quality inspection systems in medical device manufacturing, including specifying vision hardware, integrating vision hardware into equipment, and deploying vision hardware to the factory floor.
- Experience developing and implementing PLC or PC based control systems used in manufacturing.
- Demonstrated success in establishing engineering processes, standards, and best practices
- Strong track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners on complex, multidisciplinary projects
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, domestic and international.
Nice to have qualifications:
- Experience writing high level software and firmware in a variety of languages (e.g. Java, C#, C, python).
- Experience designing custom PCBs and control panels
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards such as ISO 13849 and CSA SPE-1000
- Medical/regulated industry manufacturing experience
Compensation
Kardium has listed the total cash compensation range (base salary + 5% Retirement Savings Plan contribution) that we expect to pay applicants for this role, as of the time of this posting. Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. For candidates with more or less experience than listed above, the pay range will be adjusted.
As a permanent employee, you will also participate in Kardium’s stock option plan.
- $111,000 - $138,000 (CAD Annually)
