What is the Opportunity?
Aecon is Canada’s largest nuclear constructor currently employing 2000+ highly skilled workers. As an industry leader with 50 years of the successful history of building nuclear infrastructure, 413 approved Canadian supplier base, and 300+ qualified nuclear procedures, Aecon is well-positioned for the development and construction of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Aecon Nuclear currently is undertaking efforts to replace key components at the Darlington and Bruce Power plants as a part of each respective Life Extension Program to allow operation for another 40+ years. The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, feeders, and steam generators as well as technical development, construction management and trade labour.
Aecon Nuclear is also currently at the forefront of the next generation of Nuclear Power in Canada by fabricating and constructing the first of a kind SMR facility in Darlington in addition to potential other new build large scale reactors among other exciting nuclear industry efforts across North America and Europe.
This role is located in Brantford, ON.
What You'll Do Here:
- Participate in proposal and estimating efforts to ensure transition between project estimates and baselines
- Assist in project set-up, converting bids into baseline budgets, reconciling gaps between bids and contracts
- Establish and maintain the CBS and control accounts in alignment with baseline budgets and alignment with Schedule and financial reporting.
- Manage chart of accounts library to ensure consistency and alignment with established budgets; ensure WBS and CBS alignment
- Liaise with external groups (Accounting, Finance, Procurement, Construction, etc.) to regulate, control and audit inputs into Project Controls reports
- Maintain project status update reports , forecast reports, and project dashboards; ensure timely issuance to internal and external stakeholders (per client requirements)
- Prepare Earned Value Management KPIs to assess project performance
- Create customized reports or dashboards to adapt to evolving risks and project needs
- Develop and maintain resource plans, ensuring cost and schedule alignment
- Regularly conduct detailed analysis on project performance key metrics and propose corrective actions to maintain performance/productivity; flag issues to project leadership
- Run periodical detailed labor rate analysis to gauge impact of economic factors and actualize cost multiplier assumptions; update forecasts accordingly
- Enhance Project Controls tools and templates that ensure compliance with contract requirements and internal processes
- Provide inputs and improve internal guidelines and processes for Project Controls in general and specifically for Cost Control
- Develop and maintain a change log to track all internal and external changes and monitor progress through the change management process
- Review the contract to ensure compliance with contract conditions regarding all Project Controls requirements
- Ensure cost forecasts are updated timely and accurately; ensure forecasting is informed by performance KPIs and project trends and ensure timely closure of closed cost accounts
- Coordinate with Finance and Accounting teams to support project level financial forecasting and month end reporting
- Liaise with Procurement teams to ensure appropriate Subcontractors and Purchase order management, accurate incurred cost reporting via timely accruals and invoicing
- Prepare and update project cash flow forecasts in alignment with the project schedule
- Conduct Cost Risk Analysis periodically based on Risk management and Schedule progress data
What You Bring To The Team:
- 8-12 years of Project Controls experience
- College and/or University degree in related field, OR applicable work experience
- Applied knowledge of the “Earned Value” principles and cost engineering/cost control
- Applied knowledge of Project Management and Project Controls principles, including experience with concepts of PMBOK
- Experience working in SAP systems and proficient in Microsoft Excel & Visio
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Primavera P6
- Ability to produce read and manipulate schedules and scheduling curves/reports
- Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment
- Interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
- Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge
- Detail oriented and customer focused

The expected pay range for this role is $99,000 - $149,000 per year
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
