We are seeking an experienced Contractor - Standard Costing to lead an end-to-end costing and inventory optimization initiative within a manufacturing environment. This role will be based out of a facility in near Paris ON, with a preference for candidates located in the GTA or Hamilton area (approximately 1-hour commute) who can attend the site as required to gather data, work with operational teams, and validate on-the-ground processes. This is a project-based engagement that will include establishing sustainable systems and simplifying processes that can be maintained long-term by internal teams.
The Contractor will take ownership of the current costing process and rebuild a structured, accurate, and practical standard costing and inventory framework. This includes both operational and financial components, requiring close collaboration with plant personnel, engineering, and finance stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the existing standard costing process and redesign it end-to-end
- Conduct detailed labor time studies to establish accurate production standards
- Develop and/or refine Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing processes and products
- Design and implement a clear overhead allocation methodology aligned with operational realities
- Build and document standard costing models for ongoing use
- Review and improve inventory valuation and tracking processes
- Work directly with plant staff in Paris, ON to gather operational data and validate assumptions
- Translate field findings into structured reports, templates, and system-ready inputs
- Support the implementation of simplified, repeatable processes for long-term sustainability
- Ensure the costing system is practical, maintainable, and aligned with both operational flow and financial reporting need
The ideal contractor will have a strong background in standard costing within a manufacturing environment, combined with the ability to work independently and engage effectively with both plant floor teams and finance stakeholders. This role requires someone who is equally comfortable in a production setting as they are building structured financial models and costing systems. A combination of engineering and finance experience is highly preferred—particularly individuals who understand how to establish operational standards (time, labour, materials) and translate them into accurate costing structures.
What will make you stand out:
- Proven experience leading end-to-end standard costing implementations in manufacturing environments
- Strong background in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or production engineering, paired with financial acumen
- Hands-on experience conducting time studies and establishing labour standards
- Deep understanding of BOM development and production workflow mapping
- Experience designing or improving overhead allocation systems (e.g., activity-based costing or simplified plant-wide models)
- Ability to work independently on-site, engage operators, and translate real-world processes into scalable systems
- Open for contract work until end November 2026
- Must be security clearance eligible.
