Heavy Duty Mechanic (5+ years experience required)
Burnaby | Full-Time | Dayshift (Mon–Fri, 8:00am–4:30pm)
Vimar Equipment continues to grow and we have an immediate requirement for an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our service team in Burnaby.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience performing heavy duty/commercial transport service repairs. If you take pride in your diagnostics expertise—especially electrical systems—and want to work on specialized municipal equipment in a professional, well-supported environment, this role is for you!
You’ll work on street sweepers, vacuum trucks, hydro-excavators, and other purpose-built municipal equipment, supporting municipalities across BC and the Yukon. This role offers variety, technical challenge, and a clear path into a Lead Hand position.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on municipal equipment
- Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting (strong emphasis on electrical systems; multiplex experience an asset)
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble engines and major systems including cooling, fuel, and exhaust
- Test and verify repairs to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations
- Provide technical support over the phone and in the field
- Complete preventative maintenance, fabrication, and occasional welding
- Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work orders
- Maintain accurate service reports and documentation
- Keep tools, service vehicles, and work areas clean and organized
- Support company environmental, health & safety, and security policies
- Step into a Lead Hand role as you become familiar with Vimar equipment and processes
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years + experience performing heavy duty service repairs is required.
- Licensed Heavy-Duty Technician or Commercial Transportation ticket preferred.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures.
- Strong Electrical experience, ideally with Multiplex Systems is an asset.
- Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in the repair of heavy equipment.
- Ability and desire to be a Lead Mechanic.
- Canadian Vehicle Inspection Program License and Forklift license or the ability to obtain them would be considered assets.
- Class 5 Driver's License, with clean abstract.
- Basic computer knowledge/skills.
- Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. repeatedly.
- Excellent command of the English language both written and spoken.
