TRIUMF’s state-of-the-art Machine Shop specializes in translating physicists’ vision into prototypes and one-of-a-kind experimental components. This is often an iterative process in which scientists, designers and machinists work back-and-forth to create unique components that must meet extreme tolerances for vacuum, cryogenics, and high-precision measurement.
We are looking to hire an experienced Journeyperson Machinist to join this exciting team.
BASIC FUNCTION:
The primary function of this role involves the manufacture, fabrication, and repair of experimental equipment, instrumentation, and systems as part of TRIUMF's program of work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Machine Setup and Operation:
- Independently set up, program, and operate CNC machines to produce complex components.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials for each job.
- Quality Assurance:
- Monitor and adjust machine settings to ensure precision and adherence to specified tolerances.
- Conduct thorough inspections of finished products to verify conformance to design and quality standards.
- Programming and Troubleshooting:
- Develop and modify CNC programs using MasterCAMor FUSION 360 software .
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tooling, programming, or machine malfunctions.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
- Comply with quality control procedures and industry standards.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineering and design teams to interpret specifications and ensure accurate machining processes.
- Provide input on process improvements and efficiency enhancements.
- Continuous Professional Development:
- Stay updated on industry trends, cutting-edge technologies, and machining best practices to perpetually elevate skills and contribute to the growth of the team.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
There are no direct supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position; however, the incumbent is expected to provide coaching and mentoring to less-experienced machinists.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of MasterCAM software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD models.
- Foundation knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- BCTQ Machinist Red Seal certification with a focus on CNC machining.
- Four (4) year experience as a red seal Machinist
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
COMPENSATION:
Annual salary of $70,380.00 CAD plus our comprehensive employer-paid benefits plan.
