Full job description

Our client is a mid-sized engineering firm headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, with an additional office located in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Specializing in engineering, design, project management, and procurement services, they deliver full-service EPCM solutions to clients across the Canadian and international oil and gas sectors.

Their focus and experience have been on pipelines and upstream facilities, now expanding their projects into new areas including lithium and plastic pyrolysis.

Our client is an industry leader in development of pipeline leak detection systems and innovative facility designs.

They are invested in supporting the growth and development of their team members in an environment where collaboration and mentorship are paramount.

The Opportunity:

Under the direction of the Senior Project Engineer or the Project Manager, the Intermediate Project Engineer is responsible for the direction and coordination of various discipline’s activities for the successful completion of projects to the standard of both Engineering and our clients. This role maintains liaison between all disciplines assigned to projects to ensure mutual understanding is reached on all phases of work, as defined by the contract, and to ensure continuity of job progress and design.

What you will be doing while you are here:

Complete the following detailed engineering design activities:

o Preliminary estimations and details

o Design of facility and building layouts

o Design of piping systems and layouts

o Participation in HAZOP meetings and 3D model review meetings

o Address deviations and obtain appropriate approvals when necessary

Preparation and review of project engineering project deliverables including:

o Calculations

o Data sheets

o Engineering reports (PMP’s, DBM’s, Scoping Documents, technical reports)

o Project specifications

o Drawings (P&ID’s, Plot Plans, Isometrics, Piping Plans, etc.)

o Project capital cost estimates and man-hour estimates

o Project schedules

Support the Project Manager in completing the following tasks:

o Coordination of project activities

o Monitoring of project scope changes

o Cost tracking

o Schedule tracking

o Development of meeting agendas and participation in client meetings

o Manage third party contractors in the completion of assigned work

Support to the Procurement team in the requisitions of contractors, materials, and other services by:

o Completing technical sections of request for quotes (RFQs)

o Reviewing the technical components of received bids

o Reviewing the technical aspects of bid spreads

o Liaison between clients and vendors / contractors

o Reviewing vendor and contractor QC documentation following contract award

Support the ongoing operations:

o Assist in organizing and maintaining design guidelines

o Provide input in developing and maintaining company typical drawings

o Assist with reviewing proposed or existing codes and providing feedback

o Assist with the technical development and training of junior engineers and technologists

o Support company HSE initiatives

Requirements:

5+ years of prior related work experience in the Canadian oil and gas industry, preferably in an EPCM environment
Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university
Professional engineering registered or eligible for registry with APEGA
Field or shop experience during the project scoping, fabrication and construction phases
Solid technical background in the design of mechanical equipment and piping systems
Knowledge and application of ASME, API and CSA codes
Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
General understanding of the applicable regulatory codes and standards
Strong analytical thinking, negotiating and problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills
Strong communication skills: verbal, business writing, electronic communications and presentations
