The Lab Surveillance Coordinator is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and advanced analytical support for surveillance activities at the Provincial Laboratory for Public Health (PLPH). This role works independently and collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to manage evolving surveillance needs, coordinate complex projects, leverage integrated datasets and data visualization tools to generate actionable insights. The Coordinator leads and supports surveillance and analytical initiatives, applying statistical methods to deliver accurate, timely insights that support evidence-based decision-making and align with provincial and national public health priorities. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate and manage moderately to highly complex PLPH surveillance projects, balance priorities and address issues proactively. Lead full project lifecycles from initiation to closure, ensuring timelines and stakeholder expectations are met. Define project scope, objectives, resource needs, risks, and work plans. Oversee deliverables, including timelines, data validation, and user acceptance testing. Maintain project documentation and communicate updates to stakeholders. Oversee lab surveillance reporting to ensure accuracy, and alignment with provincial and federal requirements. Analyze complex datasets using advanced analytical and statistical methods to inform laboratory operations, surveillance, and research. Collaborate with stakeholder and scientific leadership on surveillance products, publications, and knowledge sharing. Provide functional leadership to the surveillance team (1–5 staff), including coordination, mentorship, and development. Partner with APL and HSS teams to develop and implement solutions to laboratory analytics challenges.
The Coordinator, Laboratory Surveillance is a professional role within the Provincial Laboratory for Public Health (PLPH) that supports public health priorities through advanced data analytics, project leadership, and coordination of surveillance activities. Reporting to the Manager, PLPH (North Sector), this position is responsible for leading and coordinating complex laboratory surveillance initiatives, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. This role integrates statistical expertise, informatics, and project management. The Coordinator will support the development of large datasets and surveillance products, as well as perform analysis, and deliver meaningful analytics that inform laboratory operations, public health programs, and research activities. This position collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across provincial and national organizations to ensure alignment with public health objectives and surveillance requirements. In addition to leading analytical and reporting activities, the position provides functional guidance to the Laboratory Surveillance team (e.g. skill development), supports continuous improvement in data quality and processes, and contributes to innovation in laboratory analytics and surveillance.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as statistics, data science, epidemiology, or health informatics. Experience using standardized programming languages (such as SQL) to manage, manipulate, and retrieve data within a relational data warehouse (such as Snowflake EDW). Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered (i.e. clinical background plus appropriate experiences with data analysis and project management).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Experiencing collecting, maintaining, compiling, synthesizing, interpreting, analyzing and reporting primary and secondary data. Strong knowledge of project management principles and methodologies. Proven experience in managing teams, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making, coaching and mentoring. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Project and Visio). Awareness and understanding of IM/IT functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, health informatics, or computer science. Project Management certification (e.g., PMP). Experience in Public Health related field or laboratory setting. Experience using EPIC Beaker and its reporting functions (Slicer Dicer, Workbench Reports). Progressive experience in a project coordination role or management in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. 2 or more years of experience using SQL.
