Software Engineer (Android Full Stack / System-Level)

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Android Software Engineer with deep expertise in full-stack and system-level development. This role focuses on building and optimizing complex Android platforms, including both framework (upper layer) and vendor/lower layer components, to support advanced embedded and infotainment systems.

Details

Location: Kanata, ON (Hybrid – 4 days onsite)
Shift: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Pay Rate: ~$76/hour

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain Android software across the full stack
Build and enhance system-level Android components, including framework services and vendor integrations
Develop APIs, microservices, and user-facing features
Troubleshoot complex issues such as ANRs, boot failures, binder issues, and system-level crashes
Create software architecture and determine optimal technology solutions
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, engineering)
Implement best practices including Agile, CI/CD, and test-driven development
Optimize application performance, scalability, and system efficiency
Ensure secure development practices, including data protection and encryption

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
6+ years of IT experience; 4+ years in software development
2+ years of Android system-level development
Strong experience with:
- C++ (Android system / HAL development)
- Java (Android framework services)
- Kotlin (modern Android development)
Hands-on experience with:
- Android framework internals (e.g., System Server, Activity Manager, Package Manager)
- Vendor partition / system partition work
- Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL)
Proven ability to debug low-level Android issues beyond application development

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Linux Kernel or driver-level debugging
Background in Android development across the Treble boundary
Experience in automotive or embedded systems environments
Master’s degree (preferred)
