Full job description

Food Preparation & Production

Assist in planning and preparing daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) for a high-volume camp setting
Follow approved menus and standardized recipes while supporting adjustments based on dietary needs/allergies
Ensure food is prepared, cooked, and presented to high standards of quality and consistency
Support batch cooking and service timing to ensure efficient meal delivery for all camp groups

Operations & Kitchen Support

Work closely with the Head Chef to coordinate daily kitchen operations
Supervise and support kitchen staff and volunteers as required
Step into a leadership role in the absence of the Head Chef
Assist with inventory management, including receiving, storing, and rotating stock (FIFO)
Help manage food cost controls, portioning, and waste reduction

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with all provincial health regulations and food safety standards
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times
Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures
Participate in health inspections and correct any deficiencies immediately

Camp Environment & Collaboration

Live on-site and actively contribute to the camp community
Work collaboratively with camp leadership and program teams
Be flexible with scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and extended days as required
Support special events, themed meals, and camp programming as needed

Qualifications & Experience

Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Cook II, or similar role in high-volume or institutional food service
Experience in camps, schools, healthcare, or remote/residential environments is an asset
Strong understanding of food safety standards (Food Handler Certification required)
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Ability to adapt to changing needs and handle multiple priorities

Problem-solving and ability to work independently when needed
Positive attitude and willingness to support a community-focused mission

Working Conditions

Residential requirement: Must live on-site at CNIB Camp for the duration of employment
Physically demanding role: standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs
Exposure to hot kitchen environments
Flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
