We are currently seeking a Sr. GCP/ Java Developer to join our team in Toronto, Ontario (CA-ON), Canada (CA).
Job Description:
- We are looking for a Cloud Engineer (GCP + Java) who takes ownership of designing, building, and operating highly available, cloud-native applications on Google Cloud Platform.
- This is a hands-on engineering role. You will be responsible for developing scalable Java-based applications, implementing resilient cloud architectures, and ensuring production systems remain secure, reliable, and performant.
- You will work closely with Engineering, DevOps, SRE, and Product teams to build cloud solutions that are resilient by design, leveraging Google Cloud services, Cloud Spanner, and modern engineering practices. You are expected to proactively identify operational risks, optimize cloud infrastructure, and ensure production readiness through high availability, disaster recovery, and automation.
Key Responsibilities
Google Cloud Platform Engineering
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and deploying applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- 3+ years of experience designing and supporting multi-region GCP deployments for highly available enterprise applications.
- 4+ years of experience implementing cloud-native architectures using services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Compute Engine, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, IAM, and VPC.
- 4+ years of experience managing cloud infrastructure, scalability, security, and operational excellence within GCP environments.
Java Application Development
- 5+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using Java (Java 11/17 preferred).
- 4+ years of experience building RESTful APIs and microservices using Spring Boot.
- 4+ years of experience designing distributed, scalable, and high-performance applications.
- 3+ years of experience integrating cloud-native applications with databases, messaging systems, and external services.
Cloud Spanner & Data Engineering
- 3+ years of hands-on experience working with Cloud Spanner in production environments.
- 3+ years of experience designing scalable, distributed database solutions with high availability and strong consistency.
- 3+ years of experience optimizing database performance, schema design, and query execution.
- 2+ years of experience performing database migrations or modernization initiatives involving Cloud Spanner.
High Availability, Disaster Recovery & Production Operations
- 4+ years of experience owning High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) architecture for cloud-based applications.
- 4+ years of experience designing and validating failover strategies, resilience testing, and business continuity plans.
- 4+ years of experience supporting production environments, troubleshooting incidents, and driving root cause analysis.
- 3+ years of experience implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards for cloud workloads.
DevOps, Automation & Cloud Operations
- 3+ years of experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using modern DevOps practices.
- 3+ years of experience working with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
- 3+ years of experience deploying containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes (GKE preferred).
- 3+ years of experience collaborating with DevOps and SRE teams to improve deployment reliability and operational efficiency.
Security & Engineering Best Practices
- 3+ years of experience implementing cloud security best practices, IAM policies, network security, and encryption.
- 3+ years of experience ensuring compliance with enterprise security and governance standards.
- 4+ years of experience conducting performance tuning, cost optimization, and capacity planning for cloud environments.
- 3+ years of experience applying software engineering best practices including code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of overall experience in Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or Platform Engineering.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing applications using Java.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Cloud Spanner in production environments.
- 3+ years of experience designing or operating multi-region GCP deployments.
- 4+ years of experience owning High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), failover strategies, resilience testing, or production operations within GCP.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
- Experience working in Agile software development environments using Jira, Azure DevOps, or equivalent tools.
- Google Cloud certifications (Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect) are highly preferred.

- Cloud Spanner deployments deliver high performance, resilience, and operational stability.
- Infrastructure provisioning, deployments, and operational tasks are automated wherever possible.
- Engineering teams confidently deploy and operate applications with minimal production risk through strong cloud architecture and operational practices.
