Purpose:
The purpose of the Speech and Language Pathologist is to assessment, intervention, programming, and consultation services for students referred for speech, oral and written language, and communication difficulties, to enhance their language learning through the curriculum
Main Responsibilities:

To provide formal and informal assessment and consultation support for students with communication difficulties involving speaking, listening, reading and/or writing. This includes:

To provide formal and informal Language Assessments (oral and written language), consultation support for Complex Communication Needs, Speech Assessments, and Mild Speech Home Programming Support.

To recommend and provide follow up consultation support of Specialized Equipment through SEA funding for reading, writing and Augmentative Communication needs.

To share assessment results, recommendations and program modifications with appropriate staff, parents, and professionals.

To consult with the school team, Professional Services, and parents regarding speech and language programming, resources, accommodations and modifications that have been recommended.

To provide Tier 1 (whole classroom based programming), Tier 2 (targeted small group), Tier 3 (individual) levels of support.

To act as a resource to the Multi-Focus Team to support student’s needs through consultation

To support the development of Individual Education Plans.

To supervise Communicative Disorders Assistants who support staff with the implementation of recommended interventions, strategies, programming, and SEA equipment for Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices.

To liaise with and refer to community services and agencies such as School-Based Rehabilitation Services and assist in the transition of new students from Preschool Services.

To provide Professional Development workshops and board wide resources to meet identified needs of KPRDSB staff.

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Officer of Mental Health and

Professional Services and as required for college certification.
Education & Experience:

Masters degree or equivalent required in Speech Language Pathology.

Minimum 1 year recent experience
Specialized Skills:
-
Registered member of CASLPO.
-
Must maintain professional development as per College requirements.

Demonstrated experience working in a multi-focus team environment and supervising CDA’s.

Demonstrated experience with school-aged populations with a variety of developmental communication needs is an asset.

Demonstrated experience with augmentative and alternative communication is an asset

Strong communication skills.

A commitment to service excellence.

Valid drivers’ license and use of own vehicle
Supervision of Work:
-
Not responsible for supervision of work but there may be requirements to show others how to perform tasks or duties.
Working Conditions:
- Moderate amounts of attention to detail, concentration and visual exertion.

Moderate lifting materials under 5 kg and moderate travel.

Some dealing with difficult people.

School office environment; moderate amounts of pressure to meet deadlines.
